Swindon vs Wigan betting tips and predictions for Friday afternoon’s football as we get underway with the Easter weekend action in League One.
With the International Break in full swing, there’s televised League One matches this weekend and the first comes from the County Ground as Swindon host promotion hunting Wigan.
Swindon vs Wigan Predictions
This is a battle of two in-form sides in League One as Swindon welcome Wigan to Wiltshire. The Latics have been averaging two points a game recently and are unbeaten in 14 matches. Only Rochdale have better form in the division at the moment and Gary Caldwell’s side can boast the 4th best away record in the league.
Wigan can’t seem to shake off Walsall though in their quest for automatic promotion. With few games left to play, it appears that Burton are away and gone. The Brewers have a six-point cushion and it’s hard to see them slipping up in their current form. That leaves just a single place to play for.
Despite their blip, Walsall are still battling and under caretaker manager Jon Whitney they have rediscovered some of their spirit that was lost under the tutelage of Sean O’Driscoll.
With the Saddlers not in action again until Saturday 2nd April, this is a good chance for Wigan to gain some ground in the promotion race. The Latics have a match on Monday and could potentially be six points clear of their rivals by the end of the Easter period. Today’s opponents Swindon also have to face Walsall before the end of the season, so they could have a big say in the promotion race.
The Robins have been in decent form and are unbeaten in seven now under Luke Williams who earnt himself a permanent contract a couple of weeks back. They’ve moved up to 14th and clear of any relegation worries, but they currently have the 5th best form in the league. They also possess the league’s top scorer in the shape of Nicky Ajose. The former Peterborough man is firing them in for fun and has scored seven goals in six games.
During the last seven matches, Swindon have won four and drawn three. It’s now just two points from two games, but they’ve been tough fixtures and a point against in-form Millwall is not to be sniffed at.
They are going to be difficult to beat here and Wigan aren’t going to have it all their own way. The Latics have drawn four of their last six away games and I think it could go the same way here. Wigan couldn’t get the better of struggling Crewe or Colchester on the road, so I can’t back them to collect all three points here. My first football prediction for Swindon vs Wigan is for the match to end a Draw.

Wigan have only failed to score six times since the end of August. They have plenty of talent going forward and they’ve scored 10 goals in their last six matches. With Swindon possessing the league’s top scorer and despite drawing a blank against Coventry last time, they’ve hit 13 goals in six matches prior to that. My second Swindon v Wigan prediction is for Both Teams to Score? Yes.
The best odds for our BTTS bet on the match are 6/7 at 888sport.

I can’t back against Ajose for my anytime goalscorer tip on this League One fixture, having already mentioned him three times in this betting preview, he will be our selection to strike. Wigan’s defence kept Bradford at bay last time, but they conceded three times at Colchester and Ajose could cause them a few problems. My third Swindon v Wigan betting tip is for Nicky Ajose to score anytime. He can be backed at 2/1 with Bet365.
