Everton’s last outing was an eventful game on Monday night against Newcastle that produced a draw after Everton had dominated the first half and led twice in the match. Manager David Moyes was clearly disappointed with the result, especially after two seemingly legitimate goals were ruled out, but in truth his side should have been out of sight at half time after controlling the first period. Newcastle improved after the break, thanks mainly to a change of both shape and personnel; Demba Ba joining Papisse Cisse up front, giving the side a chance to hold the ball and play further into Everton’s half.

Swansea will present different problems for Everton. Their incredible debut season in the Premier League was built on an outstanding home record, and they made a fantastic start to the season with a 5-0 win away at QPR.  However, their last outing was a disappointing 2-0 defeat to previously struggling Aston Villa, and Michael Laudrup faces the challenge of picking his side up after a poor performance and result for the first time. Unlike Newcastle, Swansea play with just Danny Graham as a focal point and possess more width, pace, and perhaps patience in their style, and Everton will have to ensure they remain disciplined in keeping their shape. However, Everton possess an equal threat from wide areas, not only with live-wires Pienaar and Mirallas on either flank, but also through the movement and delivery of Leighton Baines at left back. Scorer of the first goal against Newcastle, Baines is always great value for a defender to score at any time, especially as he is often entrusted with free-kicks and penalties.

Beating Swansea in their backyard has proved incredibly difficult since their arrival in the league last season, but Everton go to the Liberty with all the right tools to do so. An away win here then, with newcomer Mirallas, impressive against Newcastle, a decent value shout for the first goal at around 7/1.
