Sunderland looked like they might turn a corner after beating Newcastle, but then slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Hull last weekend in a game marred by poor play and ill-discipline.  So what team can we expect to show up at the Stadium of Light this time?

The only stats in Sunderland’s favour are that they actually have a good recent record against Manchester City in home matches, with three 1-0 wins in the last three years.  They will also take heart from City’s dodgy away record this season, with only one league win in five tries away from the Etihad Stadium.  They will surely make it two here, however, and that’s reflected in the odds with City at 2/5 and Sunderland at 17/2, with a stalemate offered at 21/5.

I’m looking at a City win for a prediction on the match, and a comprehensive win at that, so backing them to take the points and win by three goals is appealing at 6/1 with Bet Victor.  In fact I might go for a Correct Score tip of 3-0 at 10/1 as I just can’t see Sunderland having the skill to unpick the City defence. 

Picking out goalscorers can be difficult with this team due to squad rotation, but Yaya Toure is a sure thing to start and with his new found prowess from free kicks, as well as there being no match for him in the Sunderland midfield, leads me to like his chances of opening the scoring (17/2 Bet365). 

The Last Goalscorer odds interest me too, and with Edin Dzeko a master at finding the net when he leaves the subs bench, I like the 5/1 (Bet365) odds of him doing just that for a final Sunderland v Man City bet tip.  If you think that Sunderland may grab a consolation goal as City ease up, Steven Fletcher is at 10/1 and is the only possible scorer for a team that’s low on striking options.
