This Yorkshire derby sees Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds meet for the first time since March 2007. The game comes at a poor time for Wednesday too after a torrid run of form – the Owls have lost six of their past seven games, picking up just one point in the process and sit in the relegation zone.
Dave Jones’ position has subsequently come under increasing pressure, though chairman Milan Mandaric has publicly stated his support for the manager in the past week. Whilst Wednesday have been less than watertight at the back, having yet to keep a clean sheet in the league all season, their potency up front has also been severely limited. Barring the recent draw at Burnley, they have not scored more than two goals in a game since August. Chris O’Grady heads the goalscoring charts, but has still only notched three goals in the league so far.
Leeds, however, have earned four wins from their last five and could climb up to third if they gain three points. The form of Luciano Becchio has been particularly impressive and the striker is currently the second highest goalscorer in the Championship with eight goals. He would be a good tip for anytime goalscorer too having scored in six out of Leeds’ ten fixtures so far. Like Wednesday, they have been struggling defensively too – just two clean sheets so far this season.
Given these defensive records, goals are a certainty – neither side has been involved in a goalless draw for over twenty games.
