Free football betting tips for Sunday’s Euro 2016 qualifying match between Scotland and Gibraltar.
Gibraltar travel to Scotland for a clash that will surely only have one outcome. The new boys of European football have conceded 21 goals in their first four qualifying games, and are so far yet to find the net themselves. The odds will be firmly stacked against them at Hampden Park and I will do my best to find some value football tips in the market for this inevitably one-sided affair.
Scotland v Gibraltar Betting Preview:
New manager David Wilson will be taking charge of Gibraltar for the first time after replacing Allen Bula who was relieved of his duties earlier this month. Wilson will be hoping for a better start to his tenure than Bula managed; two consecutive 7-0 defeats to Poland and Ireland. Even with a new manager in charge, on paper Gibraltar simply do not have the players to match Scotland. Their showing against Germany was not bad; falling to a 4-0 away defeat, but they simply stationed 10 men behind the ball at all times. Wilson admits that "It's always about damage limitation and then prolonged frustration, we've managed it in periods – the first 45 minutes against Poland, even with the Germans”. Therefore, I envisage another ‘park the bus’ situation at Hampden Park on Sunday.
Scotland are obviously odds on to win the game, however their scoring rate is not good. They do find it difficult to break teams down, but they eventually get their reward. This has been shown recently; battling to consecutive competitive 1-0 home wins over Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Georgia. Even against much weaker sides, Scotland rarely go goal crazy. Their last victory by more than 3 goals came in 2006 with a 6-0 home victory over the Faroe Islands.
Gordon Strachan has spoken about the expectations upon Scotland in the match and says; 'It does bring a pressure when people expect us to win easily – but we go into it feeling good about ourselves. Every game you play, you go into it thinking the other team is going to score, no matter who they are.”
I can see this game becoming a struggle for the Scots if they fail to score early. The Hampden crowd will be as feisty as ever, but if Scotland fail to put a first half chance away, they may well become disillusioned and voice their frustration. The expectation is that the Scots will be able to walk through Gibraltar at will, but as they showed against the Germans, they will not just roll over. As a new footballing nation with a population of just 30,000, to concede just four goals to the World Champions is an extremely good showing. Scotland are not anywhere near the same level as Germany and so I think Gibraltar will give the Scots a real show of defensive resolve on Sunday.
I feel that Gibraltar, buoyed by their new manager, should have a solid first half and not concede a goal, the chances of them scoring are also slim.
Therefore, my first Scotland v Gibraltar betting tip is for the half time result to be a 0-0 draw. Odds of 7/1 can be found with Bet365.
For my next betting prediction, I predict that at best Scotland will come away with a 3-0 victory and therefore my second betting tip is for there to be under 3.5 goals. Odds of 14/5 can be found with Bet Victor.
It’s a big call but, my third and final betting tip is for there to be no first goalscorer. Remember, own goals do not count for first goalscorer bets, so if Gibraltar concede off their own man and lose 1-0 then the bet will still be valid. It’s a long shot, but at odds of 100/1 I just couldn’t resist. Ladbrokes are offering these extremely tempting odds.
