Prediction for Reading v Wolves

Whilst Reading and Wolves currently hold the position of Premier League ‘has-beens’, both Nigel Adkins and Kenny Jacket will see a win as the perfect remedy to turn the concept of playing in top tier football into more than just a distant memory. Although this is a dream shared by most teams in the Championship, this weekend’s fixture could tell us a great deal in terms of which teams to look out for next season.

Reading go into the games with Wolves looking to bed in some of their summer signings. Adkins has done well in sourcing Premier League experience, in both Anton Ferdinand and Jamie Mackie, but whether or not they prove enough for Reading in 2014/15 is a different matter entirely. Crystal Palace’s Glenn Murray looks to be the Royals best piece of transfer business however. The solid striker has proved over the years than he has just exactly what it takes to score goals in the Championship and see his team rise to the promotion places. Nigel Adkins will look to explore the avenues of entertaining football whilst at Reading, but he will have to potentially face Wolves without the reliable Adam Federici. The Aussie keeper is the only injury doubt for the home side with a minor calf problem.

In the other corner, Kenny Jacket has a big task on his hands if he wants to restore the glory days back to Molineux. The former Millwall boss will have to approach Reading with a deal of caution. Over the summer the Wanderers brought in a handful of uninspiring names yet shipped out the likes of Stephen Ward to Kevin Doyle in the process. Both players went to Premier League sides, Burnley and Crystal Palace respectively, meaning that Wolves lack both quality and experience this campaign. Whilst their lofty league postion looks good now, it’s hard to see Wolves continue this form across a gruelling 46 game season. For the upcoming match with Reading, Kenny Jacket will look to new hero and goalkeeper Carl Ikeme to keep out the opposition’s threat at bay. Whilst Nouha Dicko faces a late fitness test before Sunday, Wolves have no fresh injury concerns to worry about.

Although Reading went on a nice little run at the beginning of the 2014/15 campaign, losses against Sheffield Wednesday and Derby have halted their progress. The Royals will certainly see Wolves as beatable opposition, but as Kenny Jacket and co. have been revelling in their six game unbeaten streak recently, a win will not be simple for Reading. Because of the good form of Wolves, a score draw may be a likely result as both teams fight to retain their once glorified Premier League status and we are going with a correct score tip of 1-1 for this one at odds of 6/1 with William Hill.
