Preston v Man United Prediction

After a rotten run of form in January which saw The Lilywhites fail to win in six games, Simon Grayson's men recorded a fine victory away to Sheffield United and booked themselves a real money-spinning tie at home Manchester United in the next round of the FA Cup. This in turn has galvanised the Lancashire side who have now recorded two straight wins in the league without conceding a goal.

Whereas landing the Red Devils earlier in the draw would have been perfect from a financial perspective, after four wins in the competition already, bagging the tie against United held a real catch-22 scenario for Preston. Nevertheless, having only lost one game at Deepdale all season long, the home team will certainly fancy their chances against an inconsistent United side that are not the force of old.

On paper, Louis van Gaal's men look like they are in decent form with no defeats in six. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. United are not playing well at the moment and were incredibly fortunate to pick up four points from their last two games in the Premier League. Furthermore, the lazy manner in which they approached the initial tie against Cambridge United in the last round highlights the fact that the players are simply not as good as they think they are.

With the Dutchman's childish rant about Sam Allardyce this week almost as bizarre as Phil Jones taking corners. There's no doubting the pedigree of the man, but these are genuinely worrying signs. Nevertheless, United are still in the FA Cup and sit a mere five points behind second placed City rivals in the Premier League. Could there be a method to the madness? Only time will tell.
