Premier League Football Predictions for Arsenal this Season

Today’s Premier League predictions focus on Arsenal who look set to be one of the challengers for the Premier League title, but can they win it?

 

Arsenal probably need a couple more signings to realistically challenge for the Premier League title in the 2015/16 Premier League season, but with those signings they could be a real threat to Chelsea and the Manchester clubs.

With the capture of Petr Cech from title winners Chelsea, Arsenal have finally signalled their intent to build a squad capable of challenging for the title. The void left since David Seaman finally decided to hang up his moustache in 2003 has been a constant bugbear for Gunners’ fans.

 

Many tried and failed. Jens Lehmann was a commanding figure and came closest to a success as far as Arsenal keepers go, but he was prone to the odd mistake and an occasional act of hilarity. Current stoppers Wojciech Szczęsny and David Ospina are both decent keepers, but with the capture of Cech, they are likely to find themselves warming the Emirates bench for the foreseeable future.

The 33-year-old stopper is exactly what Arsenal fans have been crying out for for years. He is extremely reliable, cool under pressure, and possesses the personality necessary to organise a somewhat fragile Gunners backline. Despite reaching his senior footballing years, the Czech international still has at least three years left in the tank and proved his class when called upon by Mourinho last season.

 

Arsenal have also found a player who, despite spending some of 2014 on loan at Charlton Athletic, has developed into a key player in front of Arsenal’s defence. After being recalled from his loan spell last December, Francis Coquelin put in some extremely accomplished displays and has rightly established himself as Wenger’s first choice defensive midfielder.

 

The 24 year-old Frenchman is the tough tackling defensive minded midfielder that fans have desired ever since Patrick Vieira packed his bindle for Juventus in 2005.

 

However, should le Coq get crocked, Wenger has next to no direct replacements. A defensive midfielder is a priority this summer. Schneiderlin, Vidal, Carvalho and Kondogbia have all been linked, but as yet no formal bid has been made.

 

Arsenal’s striking department is another department in need of reinforcement. Giroud and Welbeck are better than the majority of Premier League strikers, but they are not on the same level as Aguero, or Costa.

 

Should Wenger decide to bring in a world class Striker such as Karim Benzema, along with a world-class defensive midfielder, their aim of challenging for the Premier League title would appear a realistic one.

 

Currently you can find odds of 5/1 for the Gunners to take Chelsea’s crown, however should the two key areas of Wenger’s squad be addressed, these odds are sure to plummet.

 

Premier League Prediction 1 – Arsenal to finish in the top 2 – 13/8 with Ladbrokes.

 

Given Man City’s poor defence of their title last season, without a serious overhaul of their ageing squad they are in danger of being overtaken by both Arsenal and neighbours United.  The odds for Arsenal to finish in the top 2 are a very reasonable 13/8, and given the lack of investment at City so far, these odds are beginning to look rather inviting.
