These two sides both won their respective domestic leagues last season, but have endured contrasting fortunes this time round as they set about defending their titles. Manchester United’s shortcomings have been well documented. David Moyes has struggled in his first season in English football’s biggest job as his side sit down in sixth, 11 points away from qualification for next seasons Champions League and in unfamiliar territory for a club that has experienced unrivalled success over the past 20 years.

 Olympiakos on the other hand are right where they want and expect to be. Greece’s most successful club by some distance, they are all but assured of another league title this season as they currently hold top spot by a huge 23 points lead, and are yet to lose a game in the Superleague. They have infact won 24 from 26 in Greece this year, winning all 13 of their home games.

David Moyes will no doubt have been pleased to see strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie find themselves on the scoresheet over the weekend, scoring a goal apiece in the 2-0 win at Selhurst Park. In terms of the result, this should be a tight game that could really go either way. United have far more experience in the Champions League and know what it takes to get into the latter stages, but they are not the same side this year and seem to be down on confidence.
