Newcastle United have been shrewd in the January transfer window, signing Andros Townsend, Henri Saivet, Jonjo Shelvey and Seydou Doumbia on loan. All four could easily start in this match and you feel like Steve McClaren has to start with an attacking line-up as this is a must win game. He cannot let a rival win and open an even bigger gap to safety, and if they win, West Brom will be dragged right into the relegation mixer.

 

West Brom are entering this game in pretty poor form, however a last minute equaliser against Swansea will have boosted their confidence as it has kept Swansea below West Brom and maintained a decent gap to the bottom three. Tony Pulis will go to St. James’ Park with the only goal being not to lose. He will be very content will be setting his defence up solid and sitting back, hoping to nick a goal on the counter or from a set-piece. I don’t expect him to be very adventurous with his line up or tactics here.

 

Because I believe Newcastle have a far superior squad, especially after bolstering their team with some great signings, and with the raucous atmosphere the Newcastle fans will create, I cannot see past a home win.
