The Magpies travel to Old Trafford this Wednesday to take on Manchester United in the third round of the Capital One cup; the tie will be shown live on Sky Sports 2.

Manchester United are a best priced 1/2 with Paddy Power, Pardew’s men are 6/1 underdogs with Bet365 and the draw is 10/3 with Betfred.

This fixture is one of five all Premiership ties in the last 32 of the competition and should be more competitive than the Bookies odds would suggest. Sir Alex (or Sir Whiskey nose as we like to call him, never forgetting the formality of his knighthood) usually likes to tinker with his side in this competition, especially in the early rounds. He will be wary of a dangerous Newcastle team however and after last season could see this competition as a chance to get some early silverware. I think he will make changes however should still opt for a strong starting XI.

Alan Pardew has already stated that he believes this is a competition his side can win, suggesting that he too will field a strong side and is going to Old Trafford to win. His side go there in decent form, but with Demba Ba in excellent form having scored three goals in his last two Premier League games. With United’s defence looking incredibly shaky of late Newcastle will fancy their chances to score, even at Old Trafford and I fancy both teams to score however this can be found at a less than tempting 1/2 with Paddy Power.

Darren Fletcher should get another run out on his road to recovery and is a very tempting 7/1 with William Hill to score anytime. Demba Ba also looks extremely well priced at 10/3 in the same market, also with William Hill. There is very little value to be found in a Manchester United win so I’m going against the grain for this one and backing the Magpies, simply because I think they are overpriced for what should be a competitive game. If you disagree however I would recommend a look at the over/under goals market and value can also be found with anytime goalscorers.
