As for Sociedad, they’re struggling as well with just two wins from nine league games to start their campaign.  Unlike their opposition however, it has been just as bad in Europe with two losses in the group, and they look a long way from the team that forced themselves into the top four of La Liga last season.  The one saving grace is that they’ve just had their best performance so far with a win at Valencia, so they’ll possibly be coming to Old Trafford with more confidence.

Is that caveat reflected in the betting?  Not a chance.  92% of the money so far is on a Man Utd win at 8/15, with the rest split in half between a draw at 7/2 and a Sociedad win at 6/1.  I can’t see anything other than a home win so let’s have a look at what else is on offer.

On the Anytime Goalscorer lists, the obvious names of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney are at the top.  The England man in particular looks like he’s returned to his best, and scored two in his last CL game against Leverkusen.  He’s at 13/10, but who I really like for this game is Javier Hernandez at 19/10.  I can see him getting a good run out and he will be against a defence that can’t keep up with his movement.  In fact he may well come on as a substitute when Sociedad have mentally thrown in the towel so he is a decent bet for Last Goalscorer (13/2 Bet Victor).  On the other side, I can see Carlos Vela (4/1 Betfred) notching for Sociedad against a Utd defence that gives up chances and could struggle with the ex-Arsenal players brand of dribbling.

With my belief that there are going to be a few goals shared in this contest, I’m looking at the Both Teams To Score odds at 10/11, but let’s add it to a Man Utd win and we can get odds of 23/10 for our Man Utd vs Sociedad betting tip.  Sociedad have the talent to cause problems when they have the ball, but I can see them being ripped apart by Utd the rest of the time, and a high scoring Utd win looks on the cards.
