Liverpool vs Sunderland predictions and betting tips for their Premier League fixture on Saturday 26th November at 3pm.
Sunderland face a daunting away trip to Anfield following crucial back-to-back wins for the first time this campaign. Sunderland currently sit in 19th, three points away from West Ham in 17th and will be hoping that wins against Bournemouth and Hull give them confidence to pick up points at Anfield on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool suffered a slight setback at the weekend against Southampton after they drew 0-0 away to the Saints, however they still sit in 2nd place, one point behind leaders Chelsea. Adam Lallana has yet to return to first team training following his injury whilst on International duty and could prove to be a big miss for the Reds in their upcoming fixtures.
Liverpool vs Sunderland Predictions
Liverpool will be looking to put pressure on leaders Chelsea as Jurgen Klopp’s side could momentarily sit top of the Premier League before Chelsea face off with Tottenham in the evening kick off on Saturday. Liverpool have won five of their six matches at home this season, with the other match ending in a scoreless draw against Manchester United. The Reds have registered 19 goals at Anfield this campaign, averaging around three goals a game. Meanwhile, their opponents Sunderland have lost four of their six away games this campaign, however the Black Cats have not conceded more than two goals and have faced trips to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the past. David Moyes’ side seemed destined for relegation already with two points from 10 games, however the welcomed addition of Victor Anichebe in the starting eleven has seen them shift to a 442 formation and has worked wonders. He and Jermain Defoe, who reached 150 Premier League goals last weekend, have combined to score five goals in just two games for Sunderland. The bookies are expecting there to be many goals in this clash, however in all of Sunderland’s away matches’ games this campaign, no more than three goals have been scored, and therefore, I am going with under 3.5 goals in this match for my first Liverpool vs Sunderland betting tip.

Both teams to Score Tips
Neither of these sides have been solid in defence this season at all. The home side have conceded 14 goals in 12 games this season, and in their six matches at Anfield this season, five of those have ended where both teams have scored. Sunderland registered their first Premier League clean sheet of the season against Hull after failing to keep one in their previous 11 games. I feel that Sunderland are capable of scoring in this clash, especially with Jermain Defoe leading the line for the Black Cats. The Englishman is currently the third top goalscorer in the Premier League with seven goals, and it is likely that he will partner with Anichebe this weekend, who has bagged three goals in two for Moyes’ side. Likewise, Liverpool’s attacking strength really is frightening for any opponent. Klopps’s side have registered an incredible 30 goals in just 12 games, and six of those came in their last home game against Watford. Sunderland haven’t kept an away clean sheet all season, and even with their hot-prospect Jordan Pickford in goal, I don’t think that record will change at the weekend. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s clean sheet at Southampton at the weekend was only their second of the season, however after conceding in five of their six home games, I can see Sunderland getting on the scoresheet. My second Premier League betting tip for Liverpool vs Sunderland is going to be for both teams to score.

Anytime Goalscorer Tips
Like I mentioned, Jermain Defoe is banging in the goals for struggling Sunderland having scored seven in 12 for the Black Cats and became only the 8th player to reach 150 goals in their last match against Hull – an incredible achievement. Defoe bagged against Liverpool at Anfield last season, and I feel he may cause them problems again this weekend. Along with Defoe, I am going for Firmino to score anytime too. Sunderland’s defence is all over the place at the minute, and Papy Djilobodji added to their woes following his late dismissal at the weekend. In addition to that, Firmino has netted five times for Liverpool this season and for that reason I am going for Defoe and Firmino to score anytime to complete my Liverpool vs Sunderland predictions for this weekend.

Liverpool vs Sunderland Team News
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be without Adam Lallana again this weekend as he has yet to train with the first team following his injury he picked up against Spain. Phillipe Coutinho is expected to feature however he faces a late fitness test before they face Sunderland on Saturday. In Lallana’s absence against Southampton, Klopp opted to play a third centre midfielder in Gini Wijnaldum alongside Emre Can and Jordan Henderson. Meanwhile for Sunderland, Paddy McNair is expected to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury, whilst Papy Djiobodji is suspended. John O’Shea is expected to take his place. Jan Kirchhoff and Seb Larsson both scored and completed 90 minutes against Manchester United’s u21’s on Monday and are expected to be in the squad on Saturday.
Head to Head Stats
Sunderland have failed to beat Liverpool in their last 8 games, however their last clash ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw where the Black Cats came from two-down to score two late goals at Anfield. Sunderland have not won at Anfield since 1983, though their last fixture there will give them confidence of picking up something.
Liverpool vs Sunderland Betting Odds
The betting odds make Liverpool huge favourites for this clash and are valued at 2/11 with Bet Victor. If anyone is brave and fancies an upset, Sunderland are valued at a massive 18/1 with Betfred. A repeat of the draw at Anfield last season is valued at 15/2 with SkyBet. Betting on Liverpool may not be worth the risk, especially at such a short price, so it may be worth looking in the first goalscorer department for some value. Firmino and Mane are both 4/1 to score first with Bet365, and with 11 goals between them this campaign that could be worth a punt. Meanwhile, if anyone fancies a longshot, Jermain Defoe is 23/2 to score first with Unibet.
