Liverpool head into their FA Cup quarter-final as one of form sides in England, with their last league defeat coming way back in December. They have emerged as the favourites to lift the trophy, and are expected to book a semi-final date at Wembley when they welcome Championship side Blackburn to Anfield. The home side have picked up 26 points from a possible 30 in their last 10 games, with four straight wins in the league, and should have more than enough to record another victory here. Blackburn’s promotion bid seems to have ended, with the playoff’s now looking out of reach as they sit in mid-table. With just one win in their last five they aren’t in the best of form, and despite overcoming both Swansea and Stoke in this competition, a third Premiership scalp looks beyond them.

 

Villarreal to beat Celta Vigo – 19/20

Villarreal’s impressive home form has seen them pick up nine victories from 12 this season, and with five straight wins on their own turf are still in the mix for the European places. However sat eight points off the top four, they will know victory over Celta Vigo is vital to keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive. They picked up an impressive draw at Real Madrid last weekend and will look to build on that against another side in decent form. Celta Vigo have gone five games without defeat, moving them up into eighth place in the table, although they will have been disappointed to drop two points to a late penalty against Elche in their previous game. Despite their good run of results, they have only picked up three wins on their travels in 13 games, scoring just 10 goals in the process. With Villarreal proving hard to beat at home, and a side that concede very few, they look good value to edge this encounter.

 

Atletico Madrid to beat Valencia – 8/13

An intriguing clash between two of the top four sides in La Liga sees Atletico Madrid welcome Valencia as their battle for third place heats up. The reigning champions appear to be running out of time to mount a serious challenge for the title once again, after dropping five points in their last three games, but will be keen to get back to winning ways in order to secure an automatic path to the Champions League group stages. They have the best home record in the division, with an impressive 11 wins from 13, and just one defeat in that run. Five straight wins at home, including an outstanding 4-0 win over city rivals Real, gives them the edge against a Valencia side, who have opened up a seven point cushion to fifth place Sevilla. Four wins on the bounce appears to have them heading to that coveted fourth spot, however their away form has been slightly inconsistent, with five wins from 12. Given the situation both sides find themselves in, you feel Valencia would be happy with a point, however Atletico will be going all out for the win. Given their strong home form, they look to have a slight edge, and may well come out on top with a narrow victory.

 

Ajax to beat Excelsior – 2/5

Confidence will be high for an Ajax side fresh off the back of a terrific away win at PSV last weekend, which was the first time the league leaders have dropped points at home this season. With the gap now nine points, it gives Ajax a slight glimmer of hope of making a late push for the title, however they know they can’t afford to drop anymore points and victory over Excelsior is a must to keep on the pressure. The home side should prove too strong for the visitors, who have managed just two wins on the road from a possible 13, and sit down in 13th place, eight points off the bottom three. They have a league high 11 draws so far this season, and will no doubt be happy with another here, however it’s hard to look beyond a victory for Ajax in this one making them the strong selection.
