France v Romania Betting Preview & Predictions – Euro 2016
France vs Romania betting preview and predictions for tonight's opening Euro 2016 fixture including head to head stats, key players for both teams, a first goalscorer tip and BTTS and win bet.
France
France have made nine appearances at the European Championships and have lifted the trophy twice previously, as hosts in 1984 and in 2000. As hosts France have not needed to qualify and so haven’t played a competitive match since losing 1-0 to Germany at the 2014 World Cup. They are favourites to win Euro 2016 and look to have the strongest squad of the tournament, although there have been some surprise omissions from the squad named by manager Didier Deschamps.
Romania
Romania have made five appearances at the European Championships with their best performance coming in Euro 2000 when they reached the quarter final stage. The Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu is in his third spell as the national coach and he guided the team through the second half of Euro 2016 qualifying after a poor start. There are no well-known stars in the Romania squad but their team is built on defensive discipline and they won’t make things easy for their Group A opposition at Euro 2016.
France vs Romania Head to Head
These teams last met in the European Championship qualification campaign for 2012. France won 2-0 in Paris thanks to late goals from Loic Remy and Yoann Gorcuff and the reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.
Romania have not beaten France in a competitive match in their history. France have won three of the eight matches between the teams and the matches are rarely high scoring. In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup both fixtures were a draw and the tight head to head results between France and Romania could lead to a tight opening match at Euro 2016.

France Star Players:
Paul Pogba
Age: 23
International Appearances: 27
International Goals: 5
Pogba is the posterboy of the Euro 2016 tournament and the Juventus star has the ability to take his nation all the way. Pogba goes into the European Championships on the back of a double win with Juventus.
This will be Pogba’s first European Championships but he has already played in a Champions League final and was a pivotal part of France’s World Cup 2014 campaign. His power and pace from midfield drives the French team forward and he is equally as effective in a defensive capacity. He will be deployed in a midfield three at Euro 2016 and he could be the difference between success and failure for the Euro 2016 hosts.
Antoine Griezmann
Age: 25
International Appearances: 26
International Goals: 7
Griezmann has been a sensation for his club side Atletico Madrid in the past two seasons. In 2014/15 he scored 25 goals in 53 matches and this season he has netted 32 times in 53 appearances. Griezmann plays wide in the France team to allow Oliver Giroud to play through the middle but he could be asked to play in the central position if needed.
Griezmann was key to Atletico Madrid making it to the Champions League Final, he scored in both the quarter final against Barcelona and semi-final against Bayern Munich. In this French side he looks like one of the players who could ignite a French title charge.
Romania Star Players:
Ciprian Tătărușanu
Age: 30
International Appearances: 34
Romania’s goalkeeper will be a key man in Group A because of the teams they’re up against, their opening Euro 2016 match against France is as hard a task as they could wish for but this Romania team are founded on a solid defensive set up and Tătărușanu will be key to that setup. The Fiorentina goalkeeper possesses fantastic instincts and commands his box well, something that will be needed to give confidence to the Romania back four against the likes of Pogba, Griezmann and Giroud.
Vlad Chiriches
Age: 26
International Appearances: 39
International Goals: 0
Another of the Romania defensive players features as our second star player because of the set-up we expect Romania to undertake at Euro 2016. The opening match against France is likely to be a defensive rear-guard action and Chiriches will be at the heart of this. The former Spurs man now plies his trade in Italy with Napoli. His pace will be vital against some of Europe’s best strikers and he is very comfortable on the ball, something which will be needed to take the pressure off the players around him.

France v Romania Predictions and Betting Tips
France vs Romania betting tips and predictions for the opening Euro 2016 match with three tips from our betting preview. Following on from our France vs Romania preview above we now need to find some betting tips for the match, France are strong favourites to win in the latest match odds and it is hard to see past a French win to kick off Group A.
The odds of 1/3 for France to win are not really worthy of a betting tip so we need to find a different bet for our prediction. France haven’t played a competitive match for over two years due to not having to qualify for Euro 2016 and despite having a fantastic attacking line-up, their defence doesn’t look great and they have recently conceded twice against both Russia and Cameroon on home soil. Romania have recently lost 4-3 against Ukraine and beaten Georgia 5-1 so they certainly have a goal in them and so my first France vs Romania prediction is for France to win and both teams to score; the best odds are 19/5 at 888Sport.

For my next France v Romania betting tip I am looking to the goalscorer market and there is only one man I want to be betting on to score first. Oliver Giroud still gets some stick from the French public but the Arsenal man finished the Premier League season with a hat-trick and has scored seven goals in his last seven appearances for France including the first goal last time out against Scotland. My second France vs Romania betting tip is Giroud to score first and the best odds are 4/1 at Coral.
OFFER – 4/1 for France to beat Romania when you open a new Paddy Power account here.
Finally I want to look at a correct score prediction for the Euro 2016 opening fixture. As already stated I would not be surprised to see Romania get on the scoresheet, they have nothing to lose and nobody is expecting anything of them in this opening match. It may only be a consolation goal but that could be enough to win our correct score tip. France score bags of goals – they’ve scored three or more goals in their last four matches so I expect another few goals for France on Friday night. My final France vs Romania betting tip is for France to win 3-1 and the best odds for this are a generous looking 16/1 at bet365.
