Football Tips for Brazil vs Japan – Brazil to Start with a Win

The 2013 Confederations Cup kicks off this weekend with Brazil, the hosts, taking on Japan, in the first group game of the competition.

Brazil have recently come through a couple of testing friendlies against England and France. Following the draw with England they went on to beat the French 3-0. So they will be pretty confident following these 2 games, scoring 5 and conceding 2. England however did expose some of their defensive frailties but we also seen in the same game the power of that Brazilian attacking finesse, if you remember, Joe harts goal was absolutely peppered with shots.

However their recent form has not been that spectacular, they've won only 2 of their last 5, those wins came against the above mentioned french and a 0-4 away win against Bolivia. The other 3 results have all been draws, 2-2 against England & Chile & 1-1 against Russia, looking back at the 2 games previous to this they drew 2-2 (again) with Italy & lost 2-1 to England at wembley.

Now Japan themselves have also had a run of pretty un-inspiring games recently, they beat Iraq in their latest outing 0-1, drew with Australia 1-1, but then lost too Bulgaria 0-2 & Jordan 2-1, but they did beat Canada 2-1 prior to this. So like Brazil they have won 2 in the last 5. Japan are the obvious underdog in this game and do not posses any where near the quality of players the Brazilian squad boasts. They did however beat France 1-0 In October 2012, but then followed this up by loosing 0-4 to Brazil, I really can't make a case for anything other than a Brazil win, I can't even see Japan scoring to be honest. But there is no value in backing a Brazil win or even Brazil to win to nil.

I know cup competitions and one-off games can throw up strange results, but I am supremely confident in Brazil here, if they do not win by more than 3 goals I will be surprised, I will be backing over 2.5 team goals for Brazil, Brazil to score in both halves & a correct score of Brazil 3-0.
