Sunday’s Football Accumulator Tip
Arsenal to beat Aston Villa
A good few weeks for the Gunners, has put them right in the mix for the top four places once again, and this weekend provides them with a great opportunity to continue their winning run at the Emirates. They have won their last four at home, and have lost just one of their 10 home fixtures so far, a run that the visitors look unlikely to blemish. Villa are on a dreadful run of form, and find themselves just three points above the bottom three. Their last victory came back in early December, and they have lost three straight away games, failing to score in any, with all three finishing 1-0.
Southampton to beat Swansea
Some fine performances in recent games; including victories over Arsenal and Manchester United, mean Southampton occupy third spot, just five points off Man City in second. Unbeaten in over a month, they have won four of their last five, and have suffered just two home defeats thus far, making them a strong fancy to take the points this weekend, against an out of form Swansea side. The visitors are without a win in four, and have struggled since the departure of striker Wilfried Bony. Heavy defeats to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks, seems to have dented confidence, and a cup defeat to Championship side Blackburn last week won’t have helped.
Celtic to beat Rangers
An eagerly awaited fixture in Scotland; sees Rangers face Celtic each other for the first time in more than three years, as the Old Firm collide at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the League Cup. With Celtic starting to affirm their dominance on the Scottish Premiership once more, they will looking to making it to another cup final, and look a good bet to do so, given the fact their opponents are still a league below them in the domestic ladder. Rangers have been in turmoil in recent weeks, dealing with a change of management as well as ongoing financial issues, and find themselves 13 points off leaders Hearts in the league. With bragging rights on offer, as well a place in the cup final, Celtic appear a decent price to earn the win in what could be a thrilling encounter.
Sevilla to beat Espanyol
Sevilla will be keen to get back to winning ways in the race for the Champions League spots after a disappointing defeat to Valencia last time out, with the victors leapfrogging them into fourth in the process. Despite this setback, they will confident they can amend it, and maintain a fine home record when they welcome Espanyol on Sunday. The hosts have won seven at home this season, and are unbeaten in front on their own patch conceding just five goals in 10 games, with three successive clean sheets. The visitors meanwhile, have the worst away record in the division, with just one win from nine and six defeats on their travels, picking up just five points. They have only managed eight goals in the process.
Barcelona to beat Villarreal
Typically a formidable outfit at home, Barcelona have won eight from nine at the Nou Camp this season, and will be full of confidence after a few vital victories over reigning champions Atletico Madrid, in both the Copa Del Rey and La Liga. The visitors have performed well this season to date, and finds themselves right in the hunt for a European spot, and just three points off the top four. However given the form of Messi and Neymar over recent weeks, it’s difficult to see them doing so, making Barcelona the selection.
Napoli to beat Chievo
After an inconsistent start to the season, Napoli have managed to pick up a few good wins in recent weeks, and will be looking to build on their good run of form, when they travel to relegation threatened Chievo on Sunday. They have won three of their last five on the road, and picked up an impressive victory at Lazio last time out. They will confident of another three points, with their opponents currently on a four-game winless run. Having lost their last two, Chievo find themselves in the bottom three, and have managed just one win at home this season.
Juventus to beat Udinese
Juventus have stretched their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points thanks to three straight wins, and are unbeaten in their last five away games, with four wins and a draw in that run. The reigning champions have been in super form of late, and they appear well on their way to landing another Italian title, thanks to an impressive 15 wins from 20 matches this campaign. Having only failed to win three games on the road this season, they look a decent price to win once again when they travel to Udinese.
