Football Accumulator Tip
Chelsea to beat Southampton
Chelsea continue to lead the way at the top of the Premier League, and made it three wins on the bounce with victory over West Ham on Friday. With just one defeat all season, and 14 wins, they will look to continue their imperious form with a trip to St Mary’s this weekend. Despite Southampton’s continued presence in the top four, they tend to struggle against the division’s European sides, and this could once again prove the case this time around given the strength of Jose Mourinho’s team. Both of Southampton’s home defeats this term have come against two sides directly above them in the table in Manchester United and Man City, and it would be no surprise to see Chelsea complete this trend by leaving the South Coast with all three points.
Stoke to beat West Brom
Off the back of an impressive away win at Everton on Boxing Day, Stoke play host to West Brom this weekend, where they will be keen to address their inconsistent home form as they push for a place in the top half. They will be confident of providing their fans with some more festive cheer against a West Brom side, who look set to be involved in a relegation battle as they sit just two points off the bottom three. The visitors have lost their last two, and were thoroughly outplayed on Friday, albeit by an impressive Man City side. A lack of goals away from the Hawthorns this season suggest they could be in for another difficult trip, with Stoke the selection to grab the three points.
QPR to beat Crystal Palace
Despite boasting the worst away record in English football this season with nine defeats from nine games, QPR’s home form has been their saving grace, ensuring they remain narrowly above the relegation zone for the time being at least. Having picked up five wins at Loftus Road already, and with one of the league’s form strikers in Charlie Austin, they will be confident of adding to this tally when they welcome in Crystal Palace in a vital London derby. Without a win in over a month, and just one victory on the road this season, pressure is mounting on Palace boss Neil Warnock, with his side currently occupying a place in the bottom three after losing out to Southampton last time out. A defeat here could leave Palace and Warnock in serious trouble going into January, while a win for QPR, would put a nice little gap between the two sides in a bid to avoid the drop. Given their strong home form, QPR are the selection to take a narrow win in what could prove a pivotal game come the end of the season.
Norwich to beat Reading
Norwich have enjoyed a good run of form of late, picking up 10 points from their last four matches; with their latest victory an impressive 6-1 hammering of Millwall on Boxing Day. They remain well in the hunt for the playoff places, and currently sit just a point off the top six in seventh place, and will be hunting their sixth away win of the season, as they travel to the Madejski Stadium to take on a Reading side in very contrasting form. Having replaced their manager just a couple of weeks ago, they find themselves perilously close to the bottom three and without a win in four games. A disappointing draw with Brighton on Friday, which saw them concede a last-gasp equaliser, won’t have done their confidence any good, and therefore Norwich are fancied to inflict further misery on the Royals this time around.
Bournemouth to beat Millwall
There seems to be no stopping Bournemouth at the moment, who recorded a fourth straight win by defeating Fulham on Boxing Day, as the Cherries maintained their place at the top of the division. An impressive home record which has seen them pick up six wins from 11, looks set to be extended on Sunday when they travel to a Millwall side, who sit just one place above the relegation zone and are fresh off the back of a heavy defeat to Norwich where they conceded six goals. The visitors have managed just three wins at home all season, and have lost there last three on their own patch, making it difficult to oppose Bournemouth who are tipped to continue their fine winning run.
