Euro 2016 Predictions for Group E – Belgium and Italy to Qualify

Euro 2016 tips for Group E where Belgium and Italy are looking to secure qualification to the last 16 but don’t write off Sweden or Republic of Ireland.

 

Group E seems to one of the more competitive Euro 2016 groups as each team will fancy their chances of getting out of the group and progressing to the knock out stages, with the four best placed third teams also going through it is all to play for.

Belgium

Belgium are favourites to top the group and are the lowest price out of the four to go on and win the European Championships at 12/1. There squad has plenty of depth with a number of high profile young players such as De Bruyne and Lukaku which makes me believe they will be a big international team for some years to come. I do think that they have a good enough team to have a successful tournament this summer if they show enough consistency.

Italy

Italy are the other big name in the group and are expected to progress by many. They may not look as strong as Belgium but definitely cannot be overlooked to win the group. However, Italy are not the force they used to be and on paper and their squad has weakened over the years with many of the players being quite unrecognisable to the everyday football fan.

 

Sweden

Sweden seem to be one of two underdogs in Euro 2016 Group E but they are also considered a dark horse. They are rather consistent in qualifying for the major competitions and have always been around. However, their squad isn’t the strongest and they are very reliant on how Zlatan Ibrahimovic performs as he continues to carry his country to the tournaments even at the age of 34.

 

Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland go into the tournament happy to be there as they did well to get out of a tough group. They did it the hard way after their play-off against Bosnia but nevertheless they made it. They are made favourites to finish bottom of the group and I can imagine that the game against Sweden will be a massive factor in that but these tournaments always seem to throw a couple of upsets and with the Irish following we could see something special in France.

Republic of Ireland's fans lit up Euro 2012 and will do the same at Euro 2016.

 

I do think that this group won’t surprise too many and I do think that Belgium and Italy will take first and second place to progress to the next round. If I had to predict now, I would say Belgium to win the group and Italy to finish second but I think that would be too much of a tricky call to have a punt on. I do think that both teams should be beating Sweden and Ireland at a minimum when looking at the squads.

 

My first Euro 2016 tip for Group E is going to be a dual forecast of Belgium and Italy to finish first and second in the group. The dual forecast means that it doesn’t matter about the specific order. The opening game of the group is Sweden vs Republic of Ireland and I think that this game could decide who finishes third which is still important to all the teams as it still gives them a chance to escape the group for the first time at the European Championships.  I would back Sweden to win this fixture if I was choosing a match result winner and I think that will be more than enough for them to finish third as it’s hard to see Ireland beating Belgium or Italy.

 

My second football prediction for group E is going to be for Sweden to finish third. It’s quite a specific bet but I think this is where most people will expect them to finish and so do I.
