With the final culmination of the 2015/16 domestic season, thoughts of this summer’s upcoming international faceoff between some of Europe’s most elite footballing nations have understandably risen to the forefront in recent weeks. In light of such a notion, we’ve decided to continue our closer look at what Group F will seemingly have to offer among Euro 2016, and whether or not the tournament will hold promising fortunes for Marcel Koller’s proud Austrian outfit…
Chances of success:
Although Austria don’t exactly arrive with the most established reputation upon the international scene these days, Koller’s team will nonetheless find themselves operating at Euro 2016 full of belief and confidence on the back on a wonderful qualification campaign.
Austria displayed some truly impressive form whilst booking their place at Euro 2016 it has to be said – so whilst the likes of Portugal, Iceland and Hungary will also be expecting great things from their respective side at the fast approaching competition – Marcel Koller’s squad must be issued with their due consideration along with everyone else this summer.
Ones to watch:
Despite including several prominent names from the English top-flight among their first team ranks – such as Marko Arnautovic of Stoke City, Sebastian Prodl of Waford and Christian Fuchs of title-winning Leicester City – Bayern Munich’s David Alaba must ultimately represent Austria’s greatest asset at Euro 2016.
The man can seemingly play in any given position tasked by his respective manager, and at the still impressive age of only 23-years-old, the future remains a very bright place indeed for the versatile Bayern favourite.
From the dug-out:
Whilst Marcel Koller will admittedly find himself somewhat overshadowed by some of the more recognisable managerial names on the international circuit this summer, the 55-year-old Swiss tactician certainly deserves a fair amount of praise for raising Austrian spirits so dramatically since first being appointed for the job in 2011.
Although Koller has already impressed rather significantly among the Austrian game however, perhaps his greatest achievements with this current outfit are only just about to begin with Euro 2016 fast approaching in the not too distant future.
Austria’s Euro 2016 predictions:
Make no mistake about it – this is a team that are certainly capable of causing one or two upsets among the upcoming international tournament, especially on the back of such an exciting and entertaining qualification campaign from an Austrian perspective.
Koller’s squad includes some of the most widely admired names in world football right in the here and now – so with just a little bit of luck and good fortune on their side this summer – Austria could truly represent out-in-out dark horses to really achieve something special at Euro 2016.
