Does Victor Moses still have a meaningful future left at Stamford Bridge?

Since joining West Ham’s new look outfit led by Slaven Bilic this season, Victor Moses has so far proven a fantastic loan acquisition for the Hammers. The Nigerian international absolutely destroyed Newcastle United on his home debut a few weeks back, and subsequently went on to register himself on the score-sheet when West Ham proved triumphant on the road once again at the Etihad last time out.

Although a significantly large portion of the 2015/16 campaign obviously remains to be played in regards to how well the 24-year-old will actually perform over the course of the season, the early signs nonetheless look very promising for the Upton Park faithful.

So then, although the former Crystal Palace youngster indeed signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge before making his loan switch to West Ham this summer, does Victor Moses still have a meaningful future left at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho?

At this stage in the developments, the situation remains relatively unclear. Although Moses may in-fact carry an impressive level of ability under his belt in these early segments of his career, ousting the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian or Pedro from their designated roles at Stamford Bridge seemingly won’t prove an easy task.

Chelsea certainly haven’t hit the ground running in 2015/16 as everyone initially expected, but that doesn’t mean Jose Mourinho’s current crop of expensively assembled stars aren’t still up there in regards to the title race. On the contrary, whilst Manchester City admittedly remain the strongest looking Premier League outfit at the minute – thanks to the incredible amount of spending that took place at the Etihad over the summer – the Blues still in-fact possess that all important goal-threat in their respective matches, even if the team are distinctly failing to show right now.

The Stamford Bridge faithful also currently pay witness to a rather pragmatic manager who never seemingly sees fit to rest on his laurels across each available transfer window. Even if Chelsea somehow manage to win the Premier League title in more convincing fashion than last season this time around, Jose Mourinho would still likely sign a few players here and there in order to keep up with his fierce competition on the European scene.

A player of Victor Moses’ overall quality – someone who remains a very good player, but arguably not a great one – therefore seems unlikely to break through the ranks at Stamford Bridge any time soon. We’ve all seen what has happened to several other players previously in a similar position to what the Nigerian international currently finds himself in, for the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Andre Schurrle, Mohamed Salah and Juan Cuadrado have all had to move on in some form recently in order to guarantee themselves more first team action.

So then, whilst West Ham obviously can’t draw the same level of attention as their West London rivals seem to achieve in abundance these days – Upton Park (or should I say the Olympic Stadium in the not too distant future) ultimately offers Moses the chance to harness his skills on a more consistent basis, in front of a new-found fan-base that will be much more grateful of his presence out on the pitch.

Alongside the equally exciting attacking option of Dimitri Payet in the claret & blue, the 24-year-old front-man could well establish himself as a firm favourite at his new club, after frequently being shipped out on loan by the Blues. Moses has experienced prior loan moves to Liverpool and Stoke City in the past, so maybe it’s finally time for the player in question to settle down for a change.

As Andy Carroll and Alex Song have both previously joined West Ham on loan, and subsequently returned in somewhat surprise circumstances – the prospect of seeing Victor Moses turning out for the Hammers once more next season remains a likely one with all things considered.

In line with such a view then, it does in fact seem as if the somewhat forgotten Chelsea man is all but finished at Stamford Bridge in the cold light of day, despite the signing of his new long-term contract with the Blues. It seems the money-men at Chelsea ultimately want to get the most they can out of their current stars – whether that be out on the pitch or simply determined by the number of figures required in the cheque-book…
