Chelsea and Manchester United meet in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday just three days after their controversial Premier League clash that United won 3-2.
Both sides are likely to look a lot different to the sides that stepped onto the pitch on Sunday with Roberto Di Matteo likely to rest one or both of the figure-heads from the weekend controversy – Juan Mata and John Obi Mikel.
Latest Match Odds:
Chelsea – 13/10 with Sky Bet (bet £10 win £23)
Draw – 13/5 with Paddy Power (bet £10 win £36)
Man Utd – 21/10 with Betfred (bet £10 win £31)
There is little point in trying to second guess the teams at this stage but it is unlikely either side will make wholesale changes so expect four or five changes from both sides with the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra being rested for United while Chelsea are likely to field players such as Ryan Bertrand and Daniel Sturridge from the start.
The uncertainty surrounding line-ups makes betting difficult but there is likely to be goals, it is likely to be close and both teams are likely to score. So, 3-2 again? Man Utd to win 3-2 is 28/1, Chelsea to win 3-2 2/1 by the way.
Chelsea have not won in the last six meetings between the sides but both teams have scored in the last five meetings with all five matches producing over 2.5 goals. Over 2.5 goals is priced at 4/6 and although that price won’t appeal to the average punter, it looks a solid bet based on the history of this fixture. The last two meetings have finished 3-3 and 3-2 so over 3.5 goals at 7/4 (Betfred) could also be a sound investment.
If Daniel Sturridge gets a start as expected he may be a decent shout on the goalscorer markets, 5/2 (Ladbrokes) to score anytime is a decent bit of value, while he is a tasty 8/1 to score anytime with the same firm.
