Brendan Rodgers will certainly be hoping they do as Liverpool look to chase down a four point gap to fourth place. Chelsea will almost certainly change their line up and give a few youngsters a chance, but will they slip up and allow Liverpool to ruin their fantastic record at Stamford Bridge?

Liverpool will have to rely on others slipping up if they are to qualify for the Champions League. By the time they take to the Stamford Bridge turf there could be a seven point gap between themselves and United, or they could cut the gap to just one point with a win should Van Gaal’s men lose for the fourth consecutive match, at Selhurst Park. United do also have a 13 goal superiority in terms of goal difference which is almost worth another point. So, if United win and Liverpool lose, it would end Scouse hopes of Champions League football altogether.

The Chelsea v Liverpool game at Stamford Bridge is intriguing in many different ways; Chelsea's form is great, whereas Liverpool’s is very inconsistent and they appear to be lacking in confidence right through the team. However, Chelsea are just playing for pride and Liverpool need to go all out for the win. Mourinho will set his team up to exploit any weakness in the opposition and I think Liverpool may leave themselves open to the counter attack.

Chelsea have a fantastic record against the bigger sides this season and even though they have already won the title, it wouldn't be a Mourinho team if they just rolled over, especially at home. I think the outcome of this match will be decided by Liverpool’s motivation. If United lose to Palace, Liverpool will go all out for the win. If United win at Selhurst Park I feel that Liverpool will accept their fate of fifth place. There are many different permutations and it makes predicting Chelsea v Liverpool this weekend all the more difficult.

My overriding feeling is that Mourinho simply wouldn't accept a second rate performance in front of their home fans; he will want a display worthy of Champions. Liverpool have gained just one point from their last three away games including the 4-1 demolition by Arsenal. They failed to score in their last two away to Hull and West Brom and this does not bode well for their chances against the tightest defence in the country. I just cannot see Liverpool winning this match against a confident Chelsea side.
