Bayern Munich v Manchester City: Bayern to Win

The champions of England travel to face the champions of Germany on Wednesday and Bayern go into the game as slight favourites. The German side have made an unbeaten start to their Bundesliga campaign and secured a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Stuttgart on Saturday.

City go into the game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Arsenal and will be hoping that Yaya Toure’s return to the team will be enough to secure a win at the Allianz Arena. Franck Ribery is back for Bayern however and Xabi Alonso will be crucial if they are to get the points.

The two teams met in the group stages last season as well as in the 2011/12 campaign. Both sides have won 2 apiece in the head to head record, but expect Bayern Munich to edge it this time round.

Benfica v Zenit St Petersburg: Zenit to Win

Zenit have made a very impressive start to their Russian Premier League campaign winning their opening 7 matches and maintaining a 100% record. Benfica will provide tougher opposition for them, but there’s value in a Zenit win. The Russian side have scored 21 goals and conceded just 4 in those 7 matches, including 7 from Brazilian star Hulk.

Benfica are also unbeaten however in their domestic league, winning 3 and drawing 1. The Portuguese side have had Europa League success in recent seasons which is mainly due to their poor Champions League group stage record which has seen them progress to the last 16 just once in the past 5 seasons.

It may be a punt but if Zenit can transfer their domestic form into the Champions League, it adds plenty of value to the treble.

Borussia Dortmund v Arsenal: Draw

It’s the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons that Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have been drawn together in the group stages and both sides will be looking to avoid defeat in the opening fixture.

There has been little to separate the sides in previous seasons, Arsenal beating Dortmund away last year after the German outfit won 2-1 at the Emirates.

Marcos Reus is a big loss for Dortmund, but Arsenal could also be without their attacking talents Mesut Özil and Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal have drawn their last 3 games and expect that to become 4 on Tuesday.
