On paper this looks a full gone conclusion in favour of United, but a closer look at Cluj’s form may well change your mind. The Romanian’s are unbeaten in nine home matches, scoring nine goals in their last two and they have not tasted Champions League defeat on home soil in in their last three matches. That run included a 1-1 draw against Roma and a 1-0 win in this seasons qualifiers against Basel. Cluj strolled through qualifying in truth winning all four matches and got off to a winning start in the group stages, beating Braga 2-0 away from home. Manchester United were beaten 3-2 at home to Spurs on Saturday and that followed a less than convincing performance at Anfield a week prior. United’s away record in the Champions League is hardly spectacular having won only one of their last three games which included a 2-1 loss to Basel (a team Cluj have beaten twice already this season) in the group stages last season. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side also drew with Benfica in last season’s group stages so given Cluj’s home form, United will have to be at their best.
