Celtic vs Liverpool Prediction and Betting Tips for Saturday

Aspas Liverpool.png

With both teams set to field strong sides on for Saturday’s pre-season friendly, this ‘Battle of Britain’ between Celtic and Liverpool could be a very lively affair with plenty of drama and plenty of goals.

This game in Dublin will be Liverpool’s last pre-season friendly before the domestic season gets underway for them with a home tie against Stoke City on August 17th. So far it has been a very promising summer for Liverpool fans with 6 games already played. From those game’s they’ve got a 100% strike rate with 6 wins, Liverpool have also scored 17 goals and only conceded one. Brendan Rodgers has also made a number of signings, bringing in Kolo Toure on a free transfer, Luis Alberto from Seville, Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo.

Celtic’s domestic season is already underway after winning their opening game of the Scottish Premier League season 2-1 against Ross County. It should be another title win for Celtic this season and it’s unlikely they will have any issues securing their 45th Scottish Title without Rangers in the league to challenge them. Celtic may be more interested in progressing through the Champions League this season and spirits will be high after a 0-0 draw away to Elfsborg on Wednesday meant they qualify to the next stage of the competition 4-0 on aggregate.

From a betting perspective, Liverpool are odds on favourites to win this match and are currently best priced 7/10 with Boylesports for the victory. Celtic can be backed at 19/5 with Ladbrokes and the draw is on offer at a best priced 14/5 with Bet365. You could make an argument for the the Scottish side here, as they are already playing competitive football they should be match fit and will also still be on a high after progressing through to the next round of the Champions League. However, I fancy Liverpool to win this game if they do field a strong side as expected. It’s unlikely that Luis Suarez will be involved after the recent drama surrounding him and his possible transfer move but with the likes of Gerrard, Coutinho, Sturridge and Aspas likely to be involved, it could be tough for Neil Lennon and his team to get anything from this game.

With Liverpool’s odds slightly too short, I have hopefully hunted out some tips that will hopefully represent a bit more value. I expect it to be a reasonably close game and the draw at half time with Liverpool going on to win in the 2nd half looks like a good price, also Iago Aspas will be looking to put in a good performance prior to the season starting and he is the first goalscorer selection.
