The hosts have stuttered their way through the tournament so far and were lucky to overcome Chile in the last round on penalties. Their over reliance on Neymar and rigid, unimaginative tactics are in direct contrast to Columbia who have been the team of the tournament so far, swashbuckling their way through each match with James Rodríguez taking all the plaudits. With the form of the two teams it’s somewhat surprising to see the hosts odds on for this, 20/23 with Bolyesports, with Columbia a 19/5 chance with Bet Victor.
Obviously the bookies want to keep Brazil onside due to the fact Brazil are the host nation but this seems to have been more than a burden than an advantage so far. Also, this may be due with the fact that every historical stat points towards a Brazil win. Columbia haven’t beaten Brazil since 1991, have never beaten them on Brazilian soil and have only won twice against Canarinho in their last 25 matches.
History is against Los Cafeteros whilst the odds on price for Brazil is about appealing as spending a night with Adrian Chiles. And that leaves the draw for our Brazil v Colombia prediction, which is not a bad shout. Four of the last five matches have ended all square and each of those games saw less than 2.5 goals in them. Whilst the draw is 11/4 with most firms I’m going for the 7/2 on offer with Betway in the Match Result and Under 2.5 market. I’ve already mentioned that draws tend to be the end result in recent years but what also stands out is that in the last 10 matches, eight of those have finished with less than three goals in them.
It’s sure to be a tense nervy affair on Friday evening with neither team wanting to make a mistake. If we delve a little bit deeper into previous World Cup quarter final encounters we can see they don’t tend to throw up games with many goals in them. Looking back at the last three World Cup’s we can see that eight of the 12 games ended up with less than three goals in them. Given the above the 7/2 with Betway for the Draw/Under 2.5 Goals seems more than fair.
Our second Brazil v Colombia prediction is in the total booking points market. Normally I don’t like picking odds on shots but this looks too good to miss. Unibet currently go 3/4 that there will be +30.5 booking points in this match, which basically means we need four bookings for this to win. In their last four encounters this would have won three times as the total number of bookings in those matches’ reads 4/3/5/4 and, despite the leniency shown so far by the referee’s in this tournament, I expect this tip to win with little fuss Friday evening.
