Fresh from their fantastic win in El Clasico at the weekend, Barcelona look to cement their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League tonight against Roma. The match is live on BT Sport at the usual time of 7:45pm, and here are our match predictions and betting tips.
Barcelona v Roma Predictions
Despite the fact they have spent the last couple of months without Lionel Messi, Barcelona are absolutely flying at the moment following five straight wins in La Liga and a five-point cushion at the top of Group E in the Champions League.
However, their 4-0 drubbing of Real Madrid this weekend really was the pinnacle of their recent purple patch. The Catalan giants dominated the match from start to finish, and scored one of the finest team goals you are ever likely to see. With much of the talk that followed the game also centring around Neymar now usurping Ronaldo as the second best player in the world.
Furthermore, the partnership of Luis Suarez and Neymar has arguably blossomed further in recent weeks, even in the absence of Lionel Messi. Up until Andreas Iniesta's strike at the weekend, the pair had scored Barcleona's last 19 goals between them in the league. This is an absolutely incredible statistic.
Opponents Roma head to the Nou Camp looking to wrestle the second spot in the group from Bayer Leverkusen who sit a point behind them in the standings. The Italians did manage to take a point off Barcelona in the return fixture a couple of months ago thanks to a wonder strike from Alessandro Florenzi.
Their domestic form has been a little patchy of late, though, with a win, draw and a loss in their last three matches. Combine this with the fact that they have conceded ten goals in four games already in the Champions League, it really doesn't bode well for a potentially tight encounter in Catalonia.
Heading into the clash and Barcelona are clear favourites at a best price of 3/10. Roma can be backed at odds as long as 11/1, with the draw available at 11/2.
Based on recent results, it would take someone rather brave – or perhaps stupid – to look anywhere other than a home win for tonight’s football betting tips on the Champions League. The only slight cause for concern for backing Barcelona might be the fact that they have such a large lead in the group already, some complacency could creep into their ranks at some point.
Nevertheless, I can't see that happening and the best I feel Roma can hope for is a goal. With this in mind, my first Barcelona v Roma prediction is Barcelona to win and both teams to score at 6/4 with William Hill, and Barcelona to win and over 3.5 goals in the match at 11/8 with Paddy Power.
