I have the Community Shield predictions as well as three of the most carefully picked football tips for this intriguing encounter between two of the country’s best teams.

 

With two relatively meaningless pre-season trophies under their belt, the Gunners will attempt to win a slightly less meaningless trophy against Chelsea in the Community Shield on Sunday.

 

Arsenal have had a fantastic pre-season. They have won both off season tournaments they were part of, and in the process, with a magnificent 6-0 win over Lyon in the Emirates Cup, they showed that they are starting to find their form and fire on all cylinders.

 

A hard fought 1-0 win over Bundesliga runners up, Wolfsburg, saw them lift the Emirates Cup and finish pre-season unbeaten and full of momentum, just in time for the Community Shield and the new season. The players look right up for it and raring to go.

 

The Gunners haven't been remarkably active in the transfer window, but the one standout signing must be Petr Cech, who is in line to make his competitive debut for the Reds against his former side Chelsea in the perennial raiser of curtains that is the Community Shield.

 

Chelsea by contrast have had a mixed pre-season on top of an underwhelming transfer window. The Blues have failed to win in 90 minutes in the International Champions Cup, drawing 2 and losing 1 against the New York Red Bulls. They did manage some lacklustre wins against Thailand All Stars and Sydney FC, but these were before the players departed for their summer break

 

Chelsea showed some improvement in their 2-2 draw against Barcelona, which they eventually won rather easily on penalties, thanks in no small part to their lanky Belgian Thibaut Courtois, as well as some pitiful spot kicks.

 

As far as transfer windows go, it is hardly one that Chelsea fans will looks back on with fondness. They have brought in Asmir Begovic from Stoke to provide some competition for Thibaut Courtois and Radamel Falcao has also been brought in on loan to sure up Chelsea's attacking options.

 

The Community Shield this weekend will provide a stern test for both sets of players. Arsenal head into the match in better form, but Mourinho's teams always crank up their effort and desire when the pressure is on.

 

Despite their relatively poor pre-season form, the bookies have Mourinho's team as slight favourites to lift the trophy. You cannot argue that Chelsea need to step up their effort if they are to match an Arsenal side who are full of confidence and chomping at the bit to get going.

 

My gut instinct for my Community Shield betting tips is that this game will provide much entertainment, but will inevitably be decided by a very small margin. Arsenal showed last season that they have learned from mistakes of seasons gone by and sured up their tactics to help them in the bigger games.

 

My first Arsenal v Chelsea prediction for the Community Shield is for the game to finish as a draw after 90 minutes. Snap up the boosted 10/1 at Coral, with a cash payout.

 

However, a winner must be found. If the game finishes as a draw it will immediately go to penalties. I am rooting for this to happen; it will provide an immediate head to head contest between Chelsea's current number one and Chelsea's former number one.

 

Chelsea have had practice in the shoot-out against Barca in their last match and managed to triumph with relative ease. However, I am backing Cech to have a debut blinder and help Arsenal the lift their third preseason trophy!

 

My next Community Shield prediction is for Arsenal to win on penalties. The best odds are an extremely enticing 5/1 with William Hill.

 

With goalkeepers being the centre of attention for this clash, I feel it would be apt for either of them to be voted Man of the Match. I envisage both sides having numerous chances in the match, and ultimately I see this game being decided by the men between the sticks.
