Schurrle Wolfsburg good move

Why Andre Schurrle’s Stamford Bridge exit was the best move for his career

Despite seemingly failing to make the grade at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho, Andre Schurrle remains a great talent who can still go on to achieve massive amounts in the game.

His experience at both club and international level certainly is impressive for a 24-year-old, who since winning the World Cup with his native Germany in the summer, has come on leaps and bounds in terms of what he can offer his respective side.

The broader footballing community wouldn’t have noticed too much of the German talent during his time in west London however. Whilst Schurrle is an undoubted star who is yet to even reach his full potential, the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Willian, the man who just happens to work so well in Mourinho’s favoured set-up, seemingly stood in the way of the former Leverkusen player, and his hopes of establishing himself in Chelsea’s starting XI.

As Schurrle’s Premier League dream seems to be over for now though, has the German star found a better path on his way out of Stamford Bridge, or should the former Blues man have stuck with Chelsea, and forced Jose Mourinho to give him a fair crack at the whip?

The quick-footed winger, who has since been purchased by Wolfsburg for a cool £24 million, has the ability to beat his man in a race, create havoc with defenders with his off-ball running, and score goals from angles that most wouldn’t even consider shooting from. Last summer’s World Cup, which highlighted the forward’s ability to both assist and score goals, acted as a clear presentation of what Schurrle as to offer, despite having to operate largely from the subs bench.

Although his heroics in Brazil certainly caused a stir among Premier League fans, Andre Schurrle’s lack of involvement at Chelsea outlines just how much power the London club have at their disposal. If Jose Mourinho considered himself in a position to leave someone as good as the current Wolfsburg star on the bench, how many other potentially exciting players are being laid to waste with the Blues?

Loic Remy arrives as another name who could be developing his game at a much faster rate with another club, whilst fellow German, Marko Marin, has already experienced what a ‘career killer’ life at Stamford Bridge can sometimes be.

Where Chelsea have seemingly lost out though, Wolfsburg have certainly profited. They may have had to pay a lofty price tag for their new star, but alongside the likes of Ivan Perisic and Kevin De Bruyne in Dieter Hecking’s impressive midfield set-up, Andre Schurrle can really thrive at his new club and become well deserved hero with the Volkswagen Arena faithful. De Bruyne incidentally comes in as another star who failed to take his chance at Chelsea, but has subsequently thrived since leaving the club.

Ultimately then, the Blues may see the loss of Andre Schurrle as nothing to be too concerned with at the moment, especially as Colombian World Cup star, Juan Cuadrado, has been swept in to fill his boots this January, but the Premier League in general has lost a potentially great talent as a result of the German’s departure. We may see Wolfsburg rise up as with their new star on board however, which could be positive news for both the Bundesliga, and European football in general.
