Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund predictions and betting tips for Sunday’s friendly match at Anfield.
With just one more weekend to go before the return of the Premier League, teams have entered into the fine tuning stage of their pre-season, and after a fairly successful tournament for Liverpool in America, they return to Anfield on Sunday for a glamour friendly against Borussia Dortmund.
The Reds are at 20/19 to finish their summer with a win, with 3/1 for the Germans. A draw can be backed at 12/5.

Here is where we would expect to see a starting line-up and more extensive playing time for the players who are uppermost in Brendan Rodger’s mind, which of course makes it a lot easier to forecast. For example, Daniel Sturridge is expected back from injury and with such a short time left before the season, you can expect him to feature prominently.
It should be a really good test against the former Champion’s League runners-up. Dortmund have won six out of their seven games in this pre-season, and they seem to be adapting to the loss of Robert Lewandowski fairly well, with new signing Ciro Immobile seamlessly fitting in.
Due to being a friendly, don’t expect Dortmund to go hell for leather chasing an equaliser in the second half, if they fall behind. There will be substitutions and tactics tried out, so if Liverpool take the lead, I could foresee it being fairly comfortable from then on.
For such an event, there isn’t any value to be had in Correct Score odds, or Total Goals. I’m going to focus on the individuals instead, and as I mentioned, Daniel Sturridge is likely to start. 4/1 as First Goalscorer looks good to me as he will be raring to go. As for Dortmund, I mentioned Immobile earlier and if anyone is likely to find the net for Dortmund, it’s him (7/4 anytime) due to the great service he will get from Marco Reus. Keep an eye out also for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who might be worth a punt at 7/2 anytime due to his free kick ability.
I always look at pacy, tricky players for Last Goalscorer who can cause trouble against tired or inferior players who come on as subs in friendlies. Raheem Sterling at 6/1 falls into this category as he looks to continue his fine pre-season form, while I’d also include Jordan Ibe who has been very impressive in his time on the field this summer. He’s at 8/1 if you back him to round off Liverpool’s pre-season with a strike.
