Mexico have gotten this far on the strength of their defence, with just one goal conceded over their three group games.  Holland, on the other hand have blitzed teams, exemplified by their 5-1 shellacking of Spain.  The Dutch are 23/20 to win, with Mexico at 14/5 to move onto the quarter finals.  A draw can be backed at 5/2.

While Mexico are well capable of giving another fine defensive display and getting through, for my Netherlands vs Mexico predictions I’m thinking that there are just too many offensive options for the Dutch.  Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben are destroying defences right now, and it will probably take another man of the match performance from Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to avoid such a fate.

Mexico’s history in the knock out stages doesn’t inspire much confidence; since 1994 they have lost out in the second stage each time, while their record against the Dutch in their last four encounters has seen them lost three and draw one while shipping at least two goals in each game. 

With Robben scoring eight goals in his last nine games, and Van Persie’s record of 21 goals in his last 25 appearances for Holland, everything points to a comfortable Dutch win for me.  It may take until after half time, as Holland have scored eight of their last nine after the break, while if you think Mexico will notch, that may take until the second half as well since ten of their last twelve have come in the same time period.  It’s 7/4 for us to see a 0-0 scoreline at the break and that’s one of our Netherlands vs Mexico betting tips for Sunday.

So while it may take a while to see the scoreboard change, expect Holland to enjoy a comfortable win.  I’m especially focusing on the first goalscorer odds with van Persie at 5/1 and Robben at 6/1.  I’m also interested in Memphis Depay at 9/1 on the last goalscorer list in my World Cup predictions; his pace and energy has caused teams problems so far this summer and that has led to him finding the net, as he did against Australia and Chile.

A correct score prediction of 2-0 win for the Netherlands at 19/2 looks to be fairly logical if things work out as I believe they will, while you can get 5/2 on the Dutch winning to nil if a correct scoreline punt isn’t agreeable.  I’m happy with 11/2 for Holland to win by two goals as well for my final betting tip on Netherlands v Mexico.
