Belgium v Russia betting tips and predictions with a correct score tip and free World Cup betting tips for today.

On Sunday the 22nd June, we’ll see Belgium wrestle to take full control of Group H against a Russia team that made hard work of gaining a point vs South Korea.  Due to this the Belgians are getting the most backing at 21/20, while the Russians are 10/3 to throw the group wide open with a win.  If you see the teams settling for a draw, there are odds of 5/2.

While we only have just one group game to judge each team on, it’s fair to say that neither impressed in their games against Algeria and South Korea, especially in an attacking sense.  Therefore for my Belgium v Russia predictions I’m looking at which team has the most capacity to improve from now on, and with their collection of talent it has to be Belgium that I believe will deliver.

Where Belgium are a little weak is at full back, where they are playing two adapted centre backs instead.  Neither are completely comfortable, especially Jan Vertonghen and he was the one who gave up the foul in the penalty area for Algeria to score.  However while Russia may have a more settled backline, I don’t see them having the attacking players to take advantage of such a weakness.  Their striking options consist of the inexperienced Aleksandr Kokorin and Aleksandr Kerzhakov, who may have plenty of tournament experience, but his goal against South Korea doesn’t quite wipe out memories of his failure at EURO 2012 for me.

For a Belgium v Russia result prediction I’m looking at a narrow Belgian win here; with Romelu Lukaku looking out of sorts vs Algeria I do wonder where the goals might come from, but there is so much creativity in the midfield that surely someone will finish off the many attacking moves that will be developed.  I was also amazed at Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev’s blunder in the opening game as well as his poor handling over the whole 90 minutes; he is unlikely to be fully over that by the time this game comes along and a clean sheet doesn’t look like a possibility.

Taking a look at the betting tips possibilities after analysing the teams, and the chances of a 1-0 Belgian win stand out to me (7/1 Ladbrokes) for a correct score prediction.  I also like them to match the urgency that they had in the second half against Algeria when manager Marc Wilmots told them to step it up, and if they continue in that vein they should be ahead by half time (23/10 Belgium to lead at the half and at full time).

While I think Belgium can squeak one goal out of the game, I just don’t see Russia troubling Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois too much, so a Belgian win to nil at 9/4 is well worth a punt for our next football betting tip.  With Lukaku’s struggles vs Algeria (he didn’t have a touch inside the opposition area during his 58 minutes on the field), I’m looking at other sources for goals.  Watch out for Kevin Miralles to use his dribbling skill to good effect (14/5), or Kevin De Bruyne (17/5) to make a late run into the box, but Jan Vertonghen at 11/1 isn’t a bad shout due to his prowess at either meeting corners or his free kick taking ability.  The chance to make up for his mistake vs Algeria could also spur him on to making his mark on the scoresheet.
