It was hard to assess Honduras in a game where nothing was expected of them and their only real impact was left on the ankles, shins and knees of the French players as their aggressive mentality shone through whilst enduring long periods without the ball. Wilson Palacios was sent off for two bookings and will now miss the Ecuador game, but Honduras are fortunate it’s only him.

The clash between the sides on Friday must now produce a winner; a draw would be no help for either given that they would then have to win their final game. Ecuador can take some comfort knowing at times on Sunday it was hard to distinguish between FIFA's sixth-placed nation and the one ranked 26th, but, equally, Honduras will be relieved their toughest match is now behind them, contrary to what France's placement in the rankings would have you believe.
