Aston Villa vs Norwich Predictions and Betting Tips

Aston Villa vs Norwich betting tips and predictions for Sunday’s 4.30pm kick-off in the Premier League with both sides needing a win at the bottom half.

There’s no doubt who’s feeling more confident about this game between two teams in the relegation dogfight this season.  Norwich have been buoyed by winning against Tottenham at Carrow Road, possibly saving Chris Hughton’s job, while Villa were sucker punched at Newcastle by Loic Remy’s stoppage time winner.

So can the Canaries build on that win this Sunday?  It’s possible as Villa Park is hardly a fortress with just three wins out of thirteen this season, and as long as Norwich don’t leave themselves too open for a counter attack, Villa don’t have any Plan B to score a goal.

Unfortunately Norwich’s away record permits me from having complete faith in their ability to get three points; two wins and two draws out of their thirteen away games is what’s dragging them down the table, and just eight goals scored suggests a lack of ideas on how to improve that.  Hughton’s overall record of four wins in 32 away games for Norwich only puts me off further backing the away win.

While 3/1 for Norwich to win is tempting due to Villa’s record, I can’t back them with any confidence for my football betting tips, and with statistics like those I pointed out and the fact that both teams are level on points (28), this contest has stalemate written all over it for me.  The draw is a best price 12/5 with Ladbrokes.

The over/under of 2.5 goals is almost a surefire to be the under, though 3/4 suggests that others realise that too; Villa haven’t scored in their last three league games, while Norwich have only scored in six of their last twelve, and only scored one in each of the other six.

If there’s at least one goal in the game, look out for Norwich to score in the opening 15 minutes; Villa have shipped seven in this time frame so far this season.  The man to take advantage of Villa’s slow start should be Gary Hooper; I was very surprised when he didn’t start last Sunday’s game, and when he came on for the ineffectual Ricky van Wolfswinkel, he worried Tottenham’s defence straight away with his pace.  Houghton surely won’t make the same mistake again, and the former Celtic man could be a good catch at 7/1 to open the scoring with William Hill.

As for Villa, the fact that they won’t have the space to attack at home negates a lot of their attributes, such as Gabby Agbonlahor’s pace, so look out for Christian Benteke (7/5 anytime) to get on the end of a cross (scored most headed goals in the PL this season).   Andreas Weimann is also worth some thought (12/5 anytime) as he returned from injury with a sub appearance last week; he has a bit of cunning about him with the ability to find space against a packed defence and he could score a priceless goal for his team.
