As this years “group of death” in the Champions League enters its penultimate game I (along with many more of you I’m sure) must admit I grossly underrated Arsenal’s chances. Whilst I expected last year’s runners-up Borussia Dortmund to be the only definite qualifier from such a tight group they have failed to pick up more than 6 points from the first 4 games. Arsenal however, have brought there league form into the continental competition and sit joint top of the group with Rafael Benitez’s Italian side Napoli. This brings me on to the side that Arsenal are welcoming to the Emirates this week, Marseille.

Marseille have failed to pick up a single point in the group stages of Europe’s most prestigious club competition and can no longer qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, meaning this game against Arsenal is for nothing but pride for them.

Theo Walcott should be back from injury for Arsenal when they play Marseille. 

As if this wasn’t bad enough for the southern French team, the resurgence of Monaco as a heavyweight in Ligue 1 has meant there place in next year’s Champions League is also under threat. Only three teams in France qualify for the Champions League and Marseille currently sit in fourth place, five points behind third. Because of this I expect Marseille to turn up in London with a weakened squad and to put out a side which will aim to preserve the clubs dignity but without damaging their chances in what is sure to be a tough league campaign.

I therefore predict a strong win for Arsenal with three or four goals. A strong first half and perhaps an early goal before killing the game off in the second half against a Marseille side which I doubt will be playing at 100%. These are my football betting tips tonight.
