Leeds v Birmingham Prediction and Betting Tips

It’s a meeting of former Premier League teams, but neither is looking like returning to the summit any time soon and we have got free football tips for Leeds vs Birmingham.

Leeds have recovered from their nadir of falling into League One in 2007, but have not had a sustained promotion push since reaching the Championship again, while Birmingham almost rectified relegation in 2011 to reach the playoffs the year after, but have now slipped down the table.

This season has not seen matters improve for either team, with both clubs in the bottom half of the Championship table.  Of course things can change quickly with just a few wins in a row at this level, so who will take their chance next Sunday?

Leeds are getting plenty of backing at 23/20 odds, with 13/5 for a Birmingham win and 5/2 for a stalemate.  However, I’m not going along with this way of thinking as Leeds often get more confidence placed in them than they deserve, due to being a former giant of the game.  It’s not 1974 or 1992 anymore and I don’t like much of what they’ve done so far this season.  They’ve only won one out of their last six in all competitions, and that was a 2-1 win scraped over a Bournemouth team that played with 10 men for an hour of the game.

As for Birmingham, they’re lower placed in the table but have shown signs of life by dishing out two thumpings in their last five games, 4-1 and 4-0 to Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall respectively.  They also have a good recent record at Elland Road, winning in three of their last four visits.

So while a good case for Birmingham win can be made we won't be backing them for a football tip, it’s hard to look past their league position, and instead I can see a share of the points.  While Leeds have only won two games at Elland Road this season, I’m not sure that Birmingham can take advantage as they have only won once on the road so I can see a draw being the end result.

With both teams only scoring 10 and 13 goals respectively so far in the league, we’re unlikely to see an avalanche of goals on Sunday.  At the moment it seem that the only way Leeds can score is through some magic by Ross McCormack (7/4 anytime), while Jesse Lingard has been a revelation for Birmingham after joining on loan from Manchester Utd with five goals in four games, and he’s 7/4 as well.  Instead of these guys though, another forward has piqued my interest; Matt Smith as last goalscorer at 15/2 is interesting as he will certainly be in the thick of the action in the second half if Leeds are pushing hard for a result, and the big man will surely get his head on a few long passes and cause havoc in the penalty area.

Finally I see a 0-0 half time score as very appealing due to Leeds manager Brian McDermott starting games in a cagey fashion, then making attacking changes later on, while Birmingham will be very happy to see that for as long as possible, so let’s back a draw at half time/full time at 9/2 .
