This week sees the first round of the League Cup take place and Monday night brings the first of the action as Preston take on Blackpool in a tasty looking North West derby.

Just twelve miles separate Bloomfield Road from Deepdale and this is usually a very heated derby. I’m not going to roll out clichés regarding the fact that form goes out the window when it comes to both derbies and cup games but this a hard one to call.

Blackpool made a great start to the season performing  a smash and grab against Doncaster to record a 3-1 win,  scoring with three of just four shots on target in what was a scrappy match. Preston opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw at home to Wolves.

I fancy Preston to edge this one, they looked to have played well against Wolves and with Deepdale set to be packed, could cause a bit of an upset against their local rivals from the division above. A lot of Blackpool’s threat is contained within Tom Ince and he and several others could be rested and Ince jr may not still be at the club with rumours intensifying of a move to Newcastle. This will be a tight affair, Preston kept an opening day clean sheet and Blackpool didn’t create too much against new boys Doncaster so I don’t expect the goals to be flying in. Under 2.5 goals is available at 17/20 with Ladbrokes and under 1.5 goals is available at 13/5 also with Ladbrokes.
