The Best Jose Mourinho Bets Following The Happy One’s Return To Chelsea

The world’s press crammed into the Harris Suite for the first press conference of Jose Mourinho’s second spell at Chelsea expecting enough fodder to fill the tabloids for a week, but were left found wanting. Mourinho was subdued and gave no headline worthy quotes; even his comment of being the ‘Happy One’ rather than the ‘Special One’ seemed poor by his standards. However this hasn’t stopped the bookies from delivering a load of Mourinho specials, and we’ve got them all here in one place for you.

It may have only been his first presser today, but Betfred are already offering 2/7 that Mourinho doesn’t see out his contract, and 5/2 that he lasts in Stamford Bridge. There’s no real trick to be had here, Mourinho hasn’t lasted 4 years in any managerial post, and with Man City and Man United to contend with domestically and the continental strength of Germany and Spain, it is hard to see Jose in London come 2017.

Mourinho’s only trophyless year since 2002 was 2008 due to his midseason exit from Chelsea, and Betfred are offering 6/5 that it remains that way and the Portuguese manager wins a trophy this season not including the European Super Cup. This looks a sound bet with Chelsea’s recent relationship with the FA Cup and the emphasis Mourinho put on the League Cup himself whilst at Chelsea, winning it twice in his 3 full seasons at the club.

Betfred and Paddy Power offer 3/1 on Mourinho being named the the LMA Manager of the Year, but even at those odds that bet doesn’t look appealing. Mourinho has never won the LMA award, and the only two foreign managers to have done so are Joe Kinnear and Arsene Wenger. Add in to that the fact LMA favourite David Moyes is taking charge at Old Trafford and it is hard to see any success he may achieve with Man United not being rewarded with another LMA trophy for the mantel piece.

Though he portrayed a far more controlled version of himself to the world’s press today, Mourinho will carry the same passion for his Chelsea side as he did 5 years ago, and if he is not able to mirror the amazing success he had with them the first time around, Paddy Power’s bet of Jose to be sent to the stands during a Premier League match at 11/10 could be a fantastic shout.
