New Year, New Start. No. New Year, bash the bookies with another winning over 2.5 goals treble from the prolific @WilliamBrophy. He nailed this bet on Boxing Day and goes in search of another win, at around 5/1.

Birmingham vs. Cardiff – 3pm, Tuesday 1st January – 8/11

With the congested Christmas list coming to a close, we’re hoping that the tired defenders will allow us plenty of goals, but we shouldn’t have to hope too much in this tie. St Andrews has seen 21 goals in its last 6 games and with high-flying Cardiff visiting there should be more of the same. In each of their last 4 games, Birmingham have conceded at least 2 goals, and Cardiff won’t need a second invitation to put more than one past the home side, who should also have no problems scoring, having only failed to score twice in 12 games going back as far the beginning of November. Birmingham won’t be the only porous defence present on Saturday, with Cardiff’s record of allowing 10 in their last 6 on the road. Don’t be surprised to see this tie end up with well more than 3 goals.

Brentford vs. Bournemouth – 3pm, Tuesday 1st January – 4/5

The second best home record in the league hosts the third best away record in League 1, and though many will be avoiding it for their accumulators, we’re sticking it straight in our over 2.5 goals treble. The Bees are buzzing at the moment (couldn’t resist it), 2 points off top spot with a game in hand and will be intent on keeping themselves in this great position and putting more daylight between themselves and Bournemouth who are immediately below them in the play-off spots. Brentford will be aware the only way to do this is with goals. Bournemouth’s frontline doesn’t seem to suffer from travel sickness, having found the net 15 times in their last 6, which is the same number Brentford have scored at Griffin Park in the same number of games. This game has all the makings of a top of the table shoot-out, and we’re hoping it becomes just that.

Oxford United vs. Cheltenham – 3pm, Tuesday 1st January – 5/6

We’re looking to Cheltenham’s leaky road defence to help us cash in this New Year’s Day as they travel to the Kassam Stadium to take on 14th placed Oxford United. Cheltenham should be taking points out of this match with the pack picking up pace behing them in the play-off places, but due to their defence expect them to have to do it the hard way. Cheltenham have seen 15 go past them in their last 6 road trips, whereas Oxford have averaged 2 goals a home game in the same number of matches. If Cheltenham want to stay ahead of Rotherham and co it will look like they will need more than one goal, which is great for us.
