Arsenal are in crisis in the league at present. Defeat at home to Swansea on the weekend saw the Gunners drop to tenth in the table and leaves qualifying for the Champions League again next year already a tall order.

However, they remain well placed in Europe this year and face Greek side Olympiakos away on Tuesday night having already progressed through to the knockout stage. Wenger may see this as an ideal opportunity to rotate his squad, allowing regular league players an opportunity to rest and giving some youngsters the chance to experience Europe’s premier competition.

Their hosts, strong domestically of late but narrow losers last time out against Schalke, will present a decent test, although their qualification for the Europa League is already assured as well. The fact that this match is effectively a dead rubber makes it a tricky one for punters, but Arsenal will be desperate to stop the run of poor results, and so expect it to still be a highly competitive affair.

Arsenal still possess quality and pace going forward, they remain alarmingly brittle at the back, and so it is difficult to see them keeping a clean sheet away in Europe at present. The manner of their defeat to Swansea will have seriously shaken their confidence, as they were out-passed and out-played as well as being out-scored. There is every chance they respond well in Greece, but if their current form is any indicator they will struggle against well organised opponents, which the Greeks certainly are. In spite of Arsenal’s 3-1 victory in their previous clash in London, I expect the Gunners to just fall short tonight. Both teams to score, and Olympiakos to nick it…
