Man Utd vs Tottenham Match Prediction and Betting Tips

Last season’s runners-up host Spurs this weekend at Old Trafford hoping to maintain a very profitable run of form.

Whilst the Red Devils have been gaining good points courtesy of four wins on the trot, their form has been far from convincing. The visitors’ form has also been patchy thus far this season; however they seemed to have found some momentum in recent weeks after notching their third consecutive win in the midweek Capital One Cup tie at Carlisle.

Sir Alex Ferguson will also be hoping to continue his stranglehold on Spurs, whose record against the home side is pitiful. Spurs have only ever taken points from Old Trafford in three fixtures during the Premier League era, the last of which came in October 2005. The fact that Les Ferdinand was amongst the goalscorers the last time Spurs beat Man Utd illustrates how much they have struggled against the home side.

Such an outcome can surely be expected again this weekend. United’s home form is almost impeccable and the only points they have dropped just seven points at Old Trafford in the last eighteen months. Their main concern at the moment seems to be defensively however.

Captain Nemanja Vidic has been ruled out for eight weeks whilst Chris Smalling and Phil Jones remain sidelined, which means the only recognised first-team centre-halves are Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans. This has all contributed to a poor defensive start to the season for United – just one clean sheet in their first five games. Nevertheless, I would expect them to enjoy a tight win against the visitors.
