The live Capital One Cup match on Tuesday sees sleeping giants Leeds United host Premier League high flyers Everton and looking at the betting odds, it is the Premier League side that are fancied to progress.
Best Match Odds:
Leeds (10/3 with Boylesports), Draw (12/5 with Sportingbet), Everton (10/11 with Blue Square).
The Elland Road crowd will really be up for this clash and Leeds will fancy their chances of picking up a Premier League scalp on Tuesday night despite their position in a league below Everton. The Championship side beat Nottingham Forest at the weekend to end a run of three games without a win (despite scoring six goals) and it could be that goalscoring threat that causes concern for Everton.
United beat Oxford convincingly in the last round, cantering to a 3-0 win and their victory in Round One was even more comfortable, a 4-0 win against Shrewsbury.
Leeds have crashed out of this competition at home in the last three seasons and twice to Premier League clubs (Manchester United and Liverpool) so omens could be against the Lillewhites.
Everton have made an unusually good start to their season, they are normally still on their summer holidays at this stage, but sitting pretty in third place in the Premier League brings them into this potential upset in fine fettle. A 3-0 win at Swansea on Saturday brings them to Elland Road with their tails up and although David Moyes is likely to tinker with his squad slightly, don’t expect wholesale changes. Magaye Guaye is likely to start and Victor Anichebe will probably keep his place while Steven Naismith could get a run out from the start.
Despite not playing eachother for eight years, Everton had a good record against Leeds and Leeds won none of the past five meetings, although the head-to-head at Elland Road makes different reading. Remarkably Everton have only won once at Leeds since 1939! That stat alone makes a bet on Leeds appeal in some shape or form, draw no bet is 9/4 with Bet365 (click here, open an account, get £200 free), and double chance is 10/11 with Sportingbet (click here get £50 risk free).
Everton don’t have a fantastic record in this competition and they have crashed out three times in the last four seasons away from home, including a penalty defeat to Brentford. It is difficult to back Everton at the prices but a bet on the match to go all the way to a penalty shoot-out may be worth it, three of Everton’s last four League Cup matches before this season went to extra-time with one going all the way to penalties.
