French champions Montpellier welcome compatriot Arsene Wenger and his Arsenal side to the Stade De La Mosson for their Champions League group B opener.

Montpellier have home advantage and after winning Ligue 1 for the first time in the clubs history last season are a club on the up. 13/5 is a very tempting price for a club playing at home in Europe; however this is largely due to their inexperience at this level.

Arsenal on the other hand have appeared in 15 consecutive Champions League’s and haven’t lost in their last eight opening fixtures. Arsenal are unbeaten so far this season and seem to have tightened their defence having conceded only once so far. They also seem to have found their shooting boots after thrashing Southampton 6-1 last weekend. Arsene Wenger will be determined that his Arsenal side get off to a winning start in the Champions League as the Gunners fans grow hungrier each year for silverware.

All eyes will be on Olivier Giroud as the striker makes a quick return to his former stomping ground at Montpellier, Giroud is 13/2 with Blue Square to net first against his old club. The better bet for me though is his strike partner Lukas Podolski at 13/2 to score first with Coral, Podolski has already opened his account with the Gunners and has vast experience at this level. As far as the match itself goes I can see there being goals, and despite Arsenal’s good defensive record this season they are missing first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and have conceded in 19 of their last 20 Champions League games. Arsenal’s attack should still prove too much for the Montpellier defence and The Gunners should get off to a winning start.
