Although the Reds often flirted with the prospect of real meaningful success among the upper echelons of the English top-flight under the recently departed Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool seemingly represent a far more threatening and capable side with Jurgen Klopp making all the big decisions down in the Anfield dug-out.
Yes, this is a team that ultimately remain somewhat inconsistent and particularly hard to predict on a week-to-week basis, but without the potential burden of regular European football to contend with this season, surely its only matter of time before Liverpool find themselves back among the big time once and for all.
Well, although the team down at the BBC remain somewhat split on whether or not Liverpool will finally break the top-four once again under Jurgen Klopp…
So… can Liverpool make the top four this season? #LFC https://t.co/lkKRLJj4bT

…the vast majority of Reds fans seem as confident as ever at this particularly early stage in the proceedings…
It is going to be a good season for Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool team. Have a great weekend folks. #YNWA #LFCfamily

That doesn’t necessarily mean that Klopp has something of an easy run in this term however…
Liverpool have had a great start to the season. That loss to Burnley though questions whether they are title contenders
— Brendan Moore (@B_Moore_22) 16 September 2016
…for although the Reds have definitely looked strong thus far…
Liverpool have a better chance of winning the league than Arsenal or Tottenham. Anything other than top four would be a huge disappointment
— Nat Hubert (@nattyhubert) 16 September 2016
…anything can seemingly happen between now and the final culmination of the 2016/17 campaign…
Liverpool do this every season, they look great in some games then collapse and finish nowhere.

Yet, perhaps the blue half of Merseyside may have something to say in regards to where Liverpool will ultimately end up this term…
Media = "Liverpool 5th, they are real title contenders"
Everton are 2nd but it's only five games in."
— JustSomeLad. (@SomeEvertonFan) 18 September 2016
…especially if Klopp’s often questionable back-line serves to disappoint once again in the not too distant future…
I'm telling you, Liverpool would be automatic top four if they sorted out their travesty of a backline.

But whilst nothing remains concrete right in the here and now…
This Liverpool side are inconsistent, but when they turn up… They turn up.
— Pride of East London (@prideofeastldn) 16 September 2016
…now is seemingly as good a time as any for Liverpool fans to finally start dreaming of re-asserting their once untouchable status back among the English top-flight!
Liverpool could be the most exciting team to watch this season. Won't know what you're getting from week to week. Inconsistent but fun.
