Malta vs Scotland Preview

Malta are one of the smaller nations in this qualification process and it’s highly unlikely they are ever going to be able to challenge for qualification anytime soon. Their last win was over a year ago now beating Lithuania 2-0 but since that result (June 2015) they have picked up two draws with the rest of the games being defeats. Despite the heavy loss percentage Malta have only been beaten narrowly on numerous occasions such as the 1-0 defeats to Italy on two occasions and Croatia.

Scotland show some very patchy form of late. Before the two respectful defeats to France and Italy they picked up three consecutive wins but before them games seen four without a win for the Scots. However, a summer watching the other home nations in the Euros and looking at the other sides in the group may give them the motivation to make sure they make it to Russia in 2018.

Malta vs Scotland Predictions

I don’t expect this to be as easy as some may think travelling away to Malta. Although they don’t score many they keep it tight at the back and as Georgia proved in the Euro qualifiers it’s possible to shut Scotland out. Despite them being one of the weaker teams they’ve only lost two of the last five home fixtures.

My first football prediction for Malta vs Scotland is going to be a draw. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this one was to finish 0-0 due to Malta’s defensive record. Although many will fancy Scotland I don’t think they are very good value when you look at it and the draw is much better value in the betting odds. The best odds for this are currently 15/4 with Bet Victor.

As I mentioned earlier about Malta’s defensive record against bigger teams, they have definitely shown they can park the bus. I think that this game could be quite dry for goals as both teams will be looking at this one with caution as it’s the opening game of the World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

My second Malta vs Scotland prediction for this one is going to be under 2.5 goals. I think that the bookies have offered quite a generous price for this one with the best odds being 10/11 with Betfair.

The game to still be 0-0 at half time could be a likely outcome even if the game doesn’t finish a draw. I think Malta will be happy to park the bus and hold out for as long as possible and potentially get a chance on the break to snatch it.

My third and final Malta vs Scotland betting tip is going to be 0-0 at half time. The best odds for this are currently 9/4 with William Hill and I think that it could take Scotland a while to break through.
