Rostov

The Russian club are unknown around Europe considering that this is the first time that they are participating in the Champions League and have only played two qualifying games in the Europa League but they are quickly turning heads around the continent with their results. They knocked out Champions League regulars Anderlecht in the last round and will fancy their chances after scoring a vital away goal last week in the Amsterdam Arena. The Russians don’t have too many recognisable faces in their team and the goals are spread right throughout their squad with defender Ivan Novoseltsev their joint top scorer this season along with striker Dmitry Poloz. They have a very good home record as well as they didn’t lose a single league match last season at home and have started this season of in the same fashion with no defeats in four games at home this season in all competitions.

 

Ajax

Dutch runners-up Ajax have had a tough start to their season with only one win in their opening three league games and have struggled in the qualifying rounds of the Champions league as well. They drew 1-1 at home to PAOK before scrapping through away from home and they had a disappointing result last week when they drew 1-1 with Rostov. All of this is putting unwanted pressure on new boss Peter Bosz who is expected to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League. There is also uncertainty with Dutch number one goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen as he is expected to move to Barcelona in the next few days; however, it seems as if he will play one last game for Ajax on Wednesday as they try and qualify for the next round. Personally I don’t think he will be 100% ready for this game knowing that he will be moving clubs soon, so this could be a weakness for the Dutch club. They do still have some young talent that will cause problems for the Rostov defence in Davy Klaassen and Riechedly Bazoer, but they will need more from the players around them if they are going to have a successful season this year.

I do fancy Rostov to qualify for the group stages for the first time but the odds for this are odds on so I will be taking a punt for Rostov to win and both teams to score which is 5/1 at Bet365 for my first Rostov vs Ajax betting tip. I think Ajax will grab a goal considering that they have scored in every match that they have played this season but I do think Rostov will win, so odds of 5/1 are very appealing for this.
