Both teams are shaping up with different managers compared to the end of last season, and no surprise is Pep Guardiola where most of the attention will lie. It was a long, drawn out saga which culminated in his announcement in February that he’d take over from the departing Pellegrini.

Pep Guardiola has already made some shrewd signings this season. He brought in Nolito and Ilkay Gundogan very early in the summer and in recent weeks added Leroy Sane, who temporarily was the summer’s highest transfer fee, until it was eclipsed by Paul Pogba by the red half of Manchester. They’ve also completed the signing of John Stones, much to the relief of their fans as they became increasingly worried about their defensive options with the season about to start. He’s very much a Pep type player, as he is confident on the ball and likes to take the ball out of defence whenever possible. I expect him to grow rapidly as a defender, as he does still have a lot to learn.

 

Sunderland

David Moyes has taken the reins at Sunderland replacing the new England manager Sam Allardyce. Sunderland moved in quick to get Moyes and I believe it’s an excellent acquisition. It’s being compared to when he taken over at Everton, and it is similar. Everton were also a team struggling around the bottom of the table when he taken over, and he very quickly established them as regular top eight finishers in the league. They’ve bolstered defensively by buying Donald Love and Paddy McNair as it looks like they’re losing Lamine Kone to Everton, who was pivotal in them staying up last season after joining in January.

My first Manchester City vs Sunderland betting tip is Manchester City to win -2 handicap. -1 is only 4/6 in the betting odds and although this is risky, the fans will make for a good atmosphere and City will be looking to start the season with a bang, I don’t think Sunderland will struggle as much as last season, but this isn’t the type of game Moyes will have pinpointed as potential to get anything from.
