This is the opening game of the 2016/17 season and with both these teams having finished in mid-table last season, West Brom in 14th and Palace in 15th with only a point separating them you would consider both teams to be even and would say that this is a hard game to call.

Palace have added France’s second choice Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda, who has plenty of Champions League experience and would walk into most Premier League defences for no cost, experienced Premier League defender James Tomkins who will only add to Palace’s notorious ability to keep clean sheets, especially at Selhurst Park and exciting England international winger Andros Townsend from Tottenham who on his day has the ability to be a Premier League match winner. Christian Benteke is another player they are linked with who will score 10+ goals a season in the League in the right team. They have sold Dwight Gayle who scored a decent amount of goals last season and look likely to lose star player Yannick Bolasie but I still feel their attacking talent has enough to keep them pushing for a high mid table finish.

 

West Brom

West Brom have made only one addition in the form of QPR winger Matt Phillips for £5.5m, while he is a good signing who would boost a team of the Baggies status and give them more attacking options and a goal threat for a team that does not score goals regularly, he is not an extremely clinical player and I still feel that West Brom will struggle in the final third this season.

When taking into factor the excellent home form of Crystal Palace and the woeful away form of the Baggies during the 15/16 season, I would lean towards a home win for my Premier League predictions. This fixture ended 2-0 to Palace last year. Palace have been on excellent recent pre-season form winning four of their last five games including a 3-1 win over Valencia, while West Brom have only won two of their last five games, including losses to Torquay and Mallorca and a stalemate with Plymouth Argyle so my first Crystal Palace vs West Brom prediction is for Crystal Palace to win.
