This weekend’s accumulator tip for Saturday 6^th August concentrates mainly on the Championship but also with one game each selected from League One and League Two. 

 

Although action in the Premier League does not begin until August 13th, there is a full opening fixture list in the Championship, League One and League Two this weekend and among the games featured in the Championship are title favourites Newcastle visiting Fulham on Friday evening. However, it may be worth considering the games involving the three promoted teams from League One on Saturday.

Bristol City to beat Wigan

Bristol City were one of the more improved teams during the second half of the previous campaign and they netted 17 goals during their final five games at Ashton Gate. Lee Tomlin has now been signed on a permanent basis after a successful loan move last season when scoring six goals from January onwards. City host a Wigan team which lost just four League One away games last season but which beat just three of the other top ten teams on the road. The Latics could be difficult opposition but City are predicted to win this match.

Ipswich to beat Barnsley

Barnsley earned their position in the Championship by beating Millwall 3-1in the League One promotion playoff final at Wembley but they finished 6th and 11 points adrift of second placed Burton. The Reds will visit an Ipswich team which is experienced and generally consistent at this level of football but rarely scores more than two goals per game. Ipswich could win a low-scoring contest.

Nottingham Forest to beat Burton

Burton won just two of their last nine games in League One when claiming promotion and they travel to face a Nottingham Forest team now managed Frenchman Philippe Montanier who nearly guided Rennes to Champions League qualification last season in Ligue 1. Forest won just one home game from March onwards last term with injury and fitness problems remaining a concern, but their superior squad quality could ensure a narrow victory.

The odds for Nottm Forest to beat Burton are 20/21 with Ladbrokes.

 

Scunthorpe to beat Bristol Rovers

Scunthorpe won their final four home matches of last season including the 6-0 beating of Swindon and lost only to Hull during a pre-season in which they won three other games. The Irons finished 7th in League One last season after a strong finish to the campaign and it could be a difficult afternoon for a Bristol Rovers team playing in the fifth tier of English football just two seasons previously.

The odds for Scunthorpe to beat Bristol Rovers are 5/4 with Ladbrokes.

 

Mansfield to beat Newport

Mansfield were a mid-table team last term and lost just one of their final six final games when beaten 1-0 at Leyton Orient. They also beat Bolton 2-1 in a recent pre-season friendly whereas Newport lost eight of their last ten matches last season and failed to score more than one goal in any of those games. Another defeat appears likely for Newport.

The odds for Mansfield to beat Newport are 17/10 with Ladbrokes.
